ok, I'll bite. No wood yet - that happens when you first fire it up.
Looking good, the amp that is. I've been loving my Rocket. I am ready to give away an AC15 I built a while back, although it does have a tremolo I really like.

Re: How many people are building amps right now?
6v6 plexi that I can switch to JCM800 mode. Footswitch to toggle between ch 1 or ch 2, and a 2nd switch to turn on both channels. This would be for plexi mode obviously.

Re: What amp do you..........
My rocket with a version of VVR works well. Starting with 30 watts allows lowering the power to acceptable levels and still having it sound pretty good. I now call it the marriage saver.

Re: VVR, Power Scaling, DIY-methods - how do they differ?
well, of course when you drop a 50W or 100W amp down to "bedroom" levels, it ain't gonna sound the same, or more importantly, feel the same. I think there is a threshold, below which, you are not going to get "good" results, or at least, not AS good. Remember, volume effects bass response. The more ...

Re: Rocket #2 and #3/Zenna
Thanks for the compliment. The amp breaks up fairly early. With the amps settings at 12:00 the guitar volume pot is cracked open to around 3 for the clean tone with a gradual break up from there. She screams with the guitar volume cranked. I don't do that to often. That's when the real screa...

Re: Including channel switching in a Marshall Plexi 50w project
I am thinking about a similar approach with an extra twist. One button to toggle between the two channels, and a second button to allow both channels through. Basically just ground the signal before the mixing resistor, like mentioned above. The footswitch will ground the signal when power is applie...

Re: How to calculate voltage drop
If I remember correctly, the way to calculate the voltages at each point on a string goes something like this: Voltage In (Vs) R1 R2 R3 R4 R5 @ Voltage In - Vs * (R1+R2+R3+R4+R5) / (R1+R2+R3+R4+R5) (in other words, the full voltage) @ R1/R2 node - Vs * (R2+R3+R4+R5) / (R1+R2+R3+R4+R5) @ R2/R3 node -...

Re: ac30 sound
I have two Top Boost type amps, a Rocket and an AC15 I built, and will play them through a Red Fang in an Avatar cabinet. Very nice indeed, although a 2x12 would be nice. The Rocket also plays well through other speakers, but it is a more muted tone and is basically a different amp at that point.

Re: New Guy Introduction
Welcome aboard. I have found this forum to be a treasure and a great place to hang out. Plenty of knowledgeable experienced amp builders, with plenty of opinions, and a ton of solid advice toward building great amps. Speaking of opinions, having now built a couple Rockets, as well as two ODS t...

Re: Bluesbraker problem
I had a similar issue on an ODS I built. In this case it was a fizzy sound triggered by the low E. The low A was almost too high to trigger it. It turned out to be the NFB. I had it coming from the 8 ohm tap when the circuit was set for it to come from the 4 ohm tap. Assuming this is the same issue,...

Re: Microphone preamp cloning... Worth it ? Is it reasonable?
I built a Gyraf G9 tube 2 ch mic pre, as well as the G7 tube mic. The G9 uses two ECC82 tubes Per channel. I love it. This is as good of a mic pre as one can buy, or pretty gosh darn close. It has transformers for both input and output, phantom power and a line input. He is a Danish designer who sel...

Re: Copyright and Patent
This is an area where I think it has gotten out of hand and that the founding fathers had it right. Disney is a great example. The Disney Corp, which had nothing to do with the creation of the original movies of Walt, are hanging on and claim ownership of his creative product. So how long will that ...

Re: Smoke On The Water (da-da-da-dum)
the fire appeared to originate with a "catastrophic failure of a powered speaker". That's what happens when you have a bunch of kids suddenly become "techs" and setting stuff up. Helping my father-in-law buy an amp so he can putz around with his acoustic and hear him self while his buddy is playing...
