Re: Thanksgiving Warning

!!!THAW THE BIRD!!! I am reminded of a story about some jet engine testing done by the British. They were copying a program where they were shooting a turkey from the store into the turbine to simulate birds getting in there (I want that job). It would show them how well they were holding up. Probl...

Re: Thanksgiving Warning

Deep fried stuff is kinda bad for you. Which is why it is usually so good. It is when you eat nothing but fried foods that you get issues. I am not always sold on the "its bad for you". My grandmother would give my grandfather a bunch of guff because he wouldn't eat vegetables, just meat and potato...

Blank Faceplates

Where would one get blank faceplate material that is laser engraved "ready", already cut to spec and anodized? It seems .020" is about the right thickness.

Re: New Rocket build

A quad set of EL-84 from the sarge are very competitive with new tubes.

Re: Rocket hybrid layout

There is a weak spot in the magnetic field of the transformers along the plane of the laminates (stronger fields on the bell ends). Just make sure the orientation is such that the laminate's plane is aimed at the tubes. Looks like you already have that taken care of. There would seem to be an added ...

I would just increase the first dropping resistor to bring them all down.

Re: ideal speaker for champ ?

Delicate? Have you played a champ through a nice 12" speaker? It kicks butt. Just make sure the speaker is properly rated, which should be fairly easy to do.

Transformers are Bassman (50w) or Twin(100W), both PT and OT.

Re: Tonal Differences between a Rocket and Liverpool

The Rocket seems to be a great rhythm amp, at least for me. It can can get some crunch, but shines with clean settings, but I really am liking it for rhythm stuff, a lot. Here are some Rocket clips.

Re: how to make a layout from a schem?

One thing that I have seen that makes sense is deciding which side of the board a component goes to. This for components that have leads going off board. The orientation is dependent upon whether it is going to the front panel (pots and switches) or toward the back where you will find tube sockets a...

Re: college extracurricular activity

Like I said I really don't know anything about electronics, amps or ... I would humbly suggest you get some electronics knowledge under your belt before diving into building an amp. The caps in the power supply can hold a charge long after it is turned off and you are dealing with DC voltages rangi...

Re: How did you guys get started?

I would have to add one to the "it's a sickness". I started building a Tweed Deluxe because it was cheaper than buying what have now become collectors items. I now have 5 amps that I have built, plus two "real" amps, and you guessed it, one more in the works (6v6 plexi for a friend). But I have also...

I think he should move closer to the florescent lights, gives the sound more mojo.

I am glad to see Larry Bill has kept true to his roots and is still in the garage. He sure didn't let fame go to his head.

Re: Champ for Bass? - yes you read that right.

Sounds like you have the sound you are after, why not mike the speaker into the PA? May not always be an option. The Champ is single ended. Is that part of the sound? Will any amp you make need to be single ended? Otherwise a 2 6v6 push pull sounds about right. A Fender Deluxe or something along tha...
