Great unique tone! Really liked it alot.
The playing fit the tone very nicely---dramatic.

Re: Anyone prefer Alnico speakers for D-Style amps?
Scumnico sounds great with my Redplate (non-HRM). Not harsh at all, but lively.

Re: Ported cab design....
No, the cab sounds great in all respects except mine emphasizes certain frequencies (see 2nd post in thread).Structo wrote:I was looking at Hermida's site the other day.
His prices are certainly reasonable.
Like $275 for a ported 2 x 12.
But are you saying his design isn't very good sonically?

Yes, we actually moved in May. Different rooms, different houses, same resonance.bluesfendermanblues wrote:how about room??
Did you play the cab in different rooms? could be that the cab emphasize an acoustics problem.

Yes, I've changed all variables. Happens with Tele, LP, 18 watt, and Red Plate.Deric wrote:Just curious... Did you try different amps and guitars through the cab too?

Re: Ported cab design....
I think those Hermida cabs are actually tuned incorrectly. I had a 1x12 front-ported, and the C and C# notes played on the A string of my guitars were about twice as loud and boomy as the notes surrounding them. Those notes cause some kind of resonance overload in my cab. I emailed Alf (very nice gu...

Re: Intermittent problem with PAB
I spoke too soon. Changing the power tubes merely moved the note where the problem occurs one fret up the neck. I posted that the problem was solved because it wasn't happening where it did previously. Same problem----slightly different frequency. Now I'm thinking it is a bad solder joint. Have you...

Re: Intermittent problem with PAB
Ah I was half way joking about banging on it. What I was suggesting if it is an intermittent or bad connection, hitting the top of the cabinet with your hand might re-create the problem, or not. NO HAMMER! Although I'm sure it has crossed your mind in frustration. These intermittent things can driv...

Thanks!

Re: Intermittent problem with PAB
Have you tried different tubes or speakers? Have you checked all your solder joints? Have switched speakers and cables, as well as preamp tubes, but it's still there. Will swap the power tubes and the tube in the D-lator. If it's still there, then on to the solder joints. It's just so odd that it o...

Re: Intermittent problem with PAB
Thanks, I'll give these a try.
I wondered about vibration, but since it is a head isolated from the cab, I didn't think there would be much movement.

Intermittent problem with PAB
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this: I have Bluesmaster-style HRM amp that has an intermittent PAB issue. When PAB is engaged, on one or two select notes there is bit of congestion, then a slight volume spike, which drops again after a few seconds. The builder thought it might be a bad rel...
