Re: 5200 ohm or 6600 ohm what's the difference soundwise?
I installed a switch so that I can go back and forth. To me it sounds best on 5200 with that aggressive edge.

Re: Little Help Needed
Swap the tubes around and see if the glowing plate goes with the tube or stays with the socket.

Re: Express fini at last!
I have tried both EL34's and 6V6's. I like the EL34's the best. I have a 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks and a 2x12 loaded with Hellatone 30's (G12H30's). I like the EL34's and 4x12 Greenbacks combo the best.

Re: Express fini at last!
Man that is a nice looking build. How does it sound? Now we have 2 of the same amps (Express and Fender SR). I just finished up my Express Clone about 2 weeks ago. Man they are beast. Have you tried 6V6's yet?

Re: Express Clone Completed
Yeah I re-routed some wires before, but now if I set the amp on top of the cabinet I get the whistle. I can pick the amp up about an inch and it goes away. Set the amp back down and the whistle comes back. It is definitely cabinet interference, because if I set it on top of my 2x12 cabinet it works ...

What did you use for your shielding plate, and how big did you make it?Guitar Adjuster wrote:Installed a shielding plate in the bottom (ala Marshall) of the head cab and moved some pre-amp wires around and that seem to do the trick, nice and quiet now.

Re: Express Clone Completed
Before using shielded cable try shielding the chassis (bottom plate) cured my problem! OK I tried putting a sheet of Aluminum Rolled Flashing from the local hardware store. I cut it to the size of the opening of the chassis bottom. I set the amp back on top of the cabinet and it still whistles abou...

Re: Express Clone Completed
I am in the process of trying that now. I just happened to pick the amp up to set my Furman in under it, and walah the whistle went away. So I have got some flashing and I am going to give that a try. Thanks.keithrick wrote:Before using shielded cable try shielding the chassis (bottom plate) cured my problem!

Re: Express Clone Completed
You guessed it. It sounds great. The only issue is that I need to put some shielded cable on the Presence control to get ride of a whistle when the Presence control is cranked.strat57 wrote:Nice looking..... how's she sound?? Is that Spalted Maple for the front?

Express Clone Completed
Well it was a long trip, but I finally got the Express completed. I would like to thank all of you guys on this forum that was a great help in getting this completed. Everyone helped, but I wouldn't have been able to complete this without the help of Nic over at CeriaTone, Dana, and Moose.

Were is the best source for the PEC potentiometers in the US?HiGain wrote:Guys.... A PEC has a more gradual taper. Mind you, it will not give you more clean headroom. It will just give you more subtle control of the lower gain spectrum.

Re: creitone express
The Ceriatone and other Express amps don't have a linear volume pot. They have an audio pot. The Middle and Presence controls are the only linear pots in the Express.

Re: New Express Build Questions??? I have added a Voltage Chart
What do I need to do if my bias pot will not allow me to get the 6v6's in range? I have the EL34's running at 43.9 ma @ -30 volts, so that is way to hot for 6v6's right?
