No, you need to use a 50k pot.VaughnC wrote:Does the stock Express bias circuit have enough bias range for 6L6's?

Re: Expression 2 has arrived (chassis pix)
I don't have any problems in my amps but I run things a lot differently, I'll try what you're doing sometime. Here's a pic of an amp I built several years ago. The presence wire is up in the air but lies agains the chassis cover(bottom) when in use. This amp is very quiet with no anomilies. [img:925...

Re: Expression 2 has arrived (chassis pix)
Ron, I know this isn't your first rodeo. Do you have any trouble with notes dying fast with it cranked? Have you scoped it by any chance? Running the presence wire through the filament wires and having the grid wires in proximity to all that just never worked right for me. Maybe I need more patience.

Somebody doesn't understand these things very well or is it just me. I just can't see this amp being worth that much. What do you think. http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAINWRECK-CLIMAX-004-Rare-canarywood-combo_W0QQitemZ290019133781QQihZ019QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If you're gonna...

Re: chassis q ... unibit or punch?
Forstner bits and Greenlee punches leave the cleanest hole. I use lots of kerosene as a lube with the forstner bits. The unibit works fast but you'll have some cleaning up work on the hole usually with it.

Re: Coming soon: Rocket!
I use an AC30 choke, I think it's 18h , 15h is fine. 1K choke resistor and 1k screen resistors will give you a little more sag and seem to make things a little greasier sounding. The main thing with this stuff is to try it all and see what you like.

Re: Coming soon: Rocket!
We're talking apples and oranges. My amp runs 300v b+ on the output tubes. I'm using a 220k plate resistor on the first stage too so the voltage is pretty low all the way through. Even with the lower voltages I'll get a bit more headroom and a smoother tone with less hair on it with the 4k trannie. ...

Re: Coming soon: Rocket!
Paul, what are you using for an OT. I'm using a 4k, 50 watt, HiFi design, no farty stuff at all. Did you try .047 in the PI. That may work better with your trannie. I'm already only using 22nf PI coupling caps. The iron is from Moose (standard wreck iron). Running 360V B+. The bass content is perfe...

Re: Can I get more bass out of my Liverpool?
The 6.6k OT tap will give you more bass, if your not using 1 meg treble and bass pots put them in. 50pf treble cap? I'd stick with the .002 cap and a 68k resistor after the second stage. If you still want more bass try .047 or .1 caps in the phase inverter.

Check this thread out. Copious amounts of tight bass, smooth highs, and all the chime you could want. 470pf input cap, 47pf treble cap, .1 caps in the PI and .047 cap and 220k resistor at the input to the PI.

Re: Why do Trainwrecks not have handles?
They were primarily studio amps originally and your asking a bit of those glued 45 degree joints with biscuits supporting the weight of the amp. They look great with one of the heavy, Boogie style leather handles.
