Re: New EL34 rocket...

Thanks. It's not biased real hot and plate voltage is just 370Vdc. 6L6's sound real nice in it as well.
Yes, it's cathode bias, no nfb.

Re: New EL34 rocket...

It's very smooth and tight sounding. Lots of thump. Between working the master and the half power switch you can get a whole range of the same type sounds at vastly different volume levels. It came out with a lot more going on than I anticipated.

New EL34 rocket...

Here's a 4 EL34 Rocket style amp I just finished with a speaker cab. I had some transformers wound just for this and it all came out great. It is really nice sounding. Lot of fun to play.

Man, what a pain in the ass it must have been soldering those tube sockets to those boards with those short wires like that.

Aaron, I didn't see your pic put the two cut controls I've seen in two rocks have been 250k pots like the old british amps used. Caps are usually .002 to .0047. just a thought

Re: An Oldie but a Goodie...

Very kind of you to share your recipe. In the photo, it looks like you still have the same OD entrance circuit- is that true? Nice job. Have a good day Yes, it's a 100k trim pot, 120K resistor and 470k risistor with a 47pf bypass cap. Very smooth amp and really captures the non HRM thing +. And, th...

An Oldie but a Goodie...

The late '90's style 100 watt HRM. These were the first real Dumble amps I got to spend quality time with and it was 1999. I spent time with three of them and they were all essentially the same. The were cool amps but really didn't knock me out. The amps I built from them came out likewise. I kinda ...

Re: Express Swirl

Just for the heck of it try this if you can get it alone again. Without the airbrake crank it up and run your guitar cord under the door out into the hall. Listen to it from out there without the volume blasting your ears and see if you can hear the phasey stuff going on again. This is a great test ...

Re: Express Swirl

A lot of the noise you're describing can come from the phase inverter. I'd try swapping tubes there. If that doesn't help upping your power supply cap there to 47uf may. I'm guessing you have a 47pf resistor across the PI plates. You can try bumping that to 100pf. All that said you can also try snub...

Re: YAOB (yet another one-zero-two build)

Try pulling preamp tubes one at a time starting with V1, at the point the noise stops you'll know the section where the problem is, based on your comment about turning down the volume.

Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET

I love these CE chassis, but in both my Dumble builds I've fought a losing battle with at least one of the captive nuts that thread the chassis. I'm about ready to drill right through the entire chassis and mount this "Fender style". Taylor, getcha one of these and you're mounting problems will be ...

Re: convert to HRM

Does it make the noise without you playing through it? If so, pull the first preamp tube and if it stops its in that section. If not pull the nest two, one at a time. If it's still makeing noise it's most likely in the power section. This isn't entirely foolproof but it saves a lot of time and works...
