Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?

Here is a pdf and link to various articles and tests regarding different dielectrics vs voltage stress on capacitors. Thanks, Erwin, I have saved copies of those articles but at that link they are all conveniently collected, and they are much cleaner than the ones I have. I think most people accept...

Re: New F&T 100uf 350v caps: Tip Of The Week

The comparison between a x5f ceramic and a CD19 mica is very noticable.
As Martin mentioned, voltage stress on a dielectric can cause distortion. For some dielectrics more than others.
I dont think I can specify between different ceramics but between those prevously mentioned , yes.

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)

It looks to me like the solder lug at the top is a dedicated ground pin (see photo and data sheet for C3F): Correct, the lug that looks different from the others is connected to the body. If you use a washer with tooth(don't know the English name) when mounting the C3F it punches right through the ...

Re: 2nd Generation 50w Period Correct ODS

A couple of updates for the 2nd Gen: - Optional realay PS regulator - Location of the pedal/manual switch arc suppression cap corrected and redrawn for clarity Note in the 2nd Gen layout the ground lead from XLR pin 3 does not have the ground connection it needs for the relay to function. See here:...

Re: Revisit High-Plate Classic with a 5-piece chassis

Hi Ian, fantastic build again.
Do you think grounding points in this chassis have something to do with the sound of the amp?
Current flows can be a strange thing.
Maybe I do a PM on this.

Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.

Hi Dr D, Great looking build with lots of detail like the original 2nd gen out there and I enjoyed reading your tweaking process. I did the same thing with the accent switch, putting a trimmer before the presence cap. The "funky" OD entrance may have the #40 values for more signal/bite and you're ve...

Re: PC backing boards

Some over two years ago I started an ODS build... for several reasons it went into a halt before last summer, but now it's time to get going again... I made the larger boards mysellf, with eyelets, and bought a set of the smaller bords from a vendor here.. these were delivered with blank backing bo...

Re: "A box later" Dumble

It's alive! Sounds great. The 2k drive pot indeed works well. If unity is desired, maxing out the drive is necessary in this design. I need to play more with the recovery pot values as 1M goes from grounded signal to full within the first quarter turn. I'm also thinking 1m still might be necessary ...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)

Also thinking about adding the “ power amp in” to the circuit. I know it’s not 2nd Gen, but having it might be useful? I imagine I could probably copy the hook up from a later generation layout? Opinions? Thanks! Using the fx loop wiring from #124 is a useful thing. In #124 the master pot is pre fx...

Re: CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?

Fascinating stuff to read here, guys. I'm most excited that there is continued evolution and discussion around this circuit :o If it helps the discussion, the SSS 002 PCB prototype I built with Erwin's boards (Dumble CF) is still running strong today on the original TAD 7025 high grade tube I built...

When building the Sss002 in 2020 Richard came up with that idea too. It is implemented in my Sss002 filter board.
