Re: Changing the NFB value on the fly?

Hey Phil. I have considered this idea. But I'm thinking something that works for a cathode resistance change on V1 may not fly so well here. I have to think it would basically create a super high resistance that would simply turn the NFB off, much like a 250K pot on a BF Fender would do. Funny thing...

Re: Changing the NFB value on the fly?

A revisit... So, I opted for a 3-way switch, and for the reason that I could accurately hit my targets. However, I have come to appreciate the adjustable potentiometer usage - but only for the reason that it doesn't make a 'POP' sound at the speaker when making NFB adjustments. Yep, it is always in ...

Re: Pro Junior noise battles

I had one of these once, this year production. Yep, it hummed. I had received it from a Fender promo for free so I didn't have anything into it. After some typical experiments, thinking like the OP, that there was some layout problem. In 2002 there weren't aftermarket PTs or OTs made especially for ...

Re: Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> no sound

Stevem is on it, jack has broken loose of its PC board traces. This requires all the knobs to be carefully pulled off (they are hard to get off and not for the novice). Then remove all the (6?) screws that hold the board to the chassis, remove the nut off the input jack, cut any zip ties that strap ...

Re: Changing the NFB value on the fly?

The pot is a good idea, actually! Thanks, Matthew's Guitars. Using a 5K pot (along with the 4.7K tail) the ratio spread is basically 20:1 (current) and 10:1 (altered), and this may be good for my needs. However, using a 10K pot here instead, the ratio spread becomes 20:1 and 7:1, which is fairly clo...

Changing the NFB value on the fly?

So, I have an extra ON/OFF switch on my chassis front panel. I can plug it or leave it as it sits, but, it occurred to me that of all the duties I might adapt the switch to perform, I could simply use it to increase (double in series) the 4.7K tail resistor (100K from OT) to 9.4K and thereby change ...

Re: Cesar Diaz cd100 scheme

I had a Diaz protype here of this amp. A client had purchased it in NYC off the floor of a store, can't remember the name of the store. But he did tell me that he had called them about it a few months later, either asking for a more formal receipt or some info (this was in 1998). He told me the guy ...

Re: Choke placement in early Tweed circuits

I've built maybe five 5F4 Fender Supers (same circuit). When you think about the circuit, building it the way Fender did, the screens and plates were tied together. And everyone here knows what that sounds like, right? There will be a significant reduction in output power vs. the same amp with a typ...

Re: Seems that TAD 6L6WGC is discontinued... Suggestions

I'm a big fan of the JJ 6L6, I think their design and sound are unique among the current offerings. If you're playing at bedroom levels then maybe they are not for you, understood. FWIW, I've always been a BIG fan of the Philips STR 387 or the 415 double getter, and this JJ tube reminds me of it mor...

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 45

Hi, Phil. Yes, but then there's all those extraneous .01 caps attached to ground points. These caught my attention because I have recording gear (a preamp/comp) that was a bit noisy and I read an article in Recording (magazine) that was written by a tech in NYC. He was known for his ability to stifl...

Thanks for the share, Steve. There seem to be so many safeguard caps added to the circuit. How does this amp sound?

Re: Nuke Schematic

rdavy, when you say you modded your Normal channel, are you meaning that you modded your Normal channel to the Nuke 'Vibrato' channel specs? Did you keep the Reverb channel intact? If so, what 1/2 tube did you rob to create the 3rd stage? Thanks. Also, to the author, looking at that 3rd stage, expla...

Re: Xits X10 = liverpool half power?

Back story on buying an amp you want to clone and can't afford it. And this is a true story. A friend I knew who was also into amps and building/repairing them became enamored with the Dumble amp. The year was 1997. He found one, a 1/12 combo in brown suede and Vox grill covering: Price: $3600. He w...
