Re: VTVM Vacuum Tube Volt Meter Questions

Actually, the point of repair and calibration(?) is a good one. And of course, there are situations where needle type instrument have great advantages over any digital instruments. I've been in the "bussiness" for over 30 years now, servicing and designing " one-off " type instruments. My education ...

Re: VTVM Vacuum Tube Volt Meter Questions

Please, don't put any more into my ramblings than what's actually there... I fully agree to the scope being THE most useful instrument for working with DIY amps, be it guitar amps or HiFi. Some of the VTVMs listed were top notch models of their day, and are not usually avaliable to the average...

Re: VTVM Vacuum Tube Volt Meter Questions

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, (since I'm fairly new to guitar amp building), - I can see the tube fan's wish to have tube based measuring eqpt too, but I hope you're not saying that tubes can only be measured by tubes??? Most modern multimeters of good quality will easily outperfom an old VTVM, ...

Re: Output transformer question

This particular transformer was somewhat smallish...?
You might be saturating the core...........try the resistor trick, and see what comes out of it..
Otherwise, -I'm out of ideas.......... :(

Re: Output transformer question

The latter part of your post refers to a loudspeaker as a load for your amp. A typical 8 ohms full range or guitar speaker, will be 8 ohms or slightly less around 1 kHz, which is usually the reference frequency for loudspeaker data. Since the speaker is driven by a coil,( the voice coil), its impeda...

Re: Output transformer question

Using any kind of small ( or larger) audio amp should fix the loading problem. Just make sure you measure the voltage directly at the secondary winding being used.

Re: T-wreck cab assembly

Yeah...I know about the bisquits, but around here, bisquit jointers are still a novelty, and the few I've seen are 400$++ That's really the essence of my little dilemma. Quite alot of your everyday woodworking gadgets are unavailable in my corner of the world, and what is, is up to 10-fold in price....

T-wreck cab assembly

There is a description online here on T-wreck cabs, using mitred joints only.... I'd assume this being too weak for an amp cab? Fingerjoints or dovetails are OK with suitable eqpt, - which I don't have -and I'd hate to handcut them.. :) . I won't have any visible screws either....I know reinforcing ...

Re: Amp Garage and safety issues

While capital letter warnings are most certainly appropriate, - as a european, I'm still quite amazed about the general level of no-brainers that ends up in the US judicial system. As an EE pro, in general terms ( maybe not in guitar amps), all mains driven eqpt represents a possible danger, - tube ...

If someone has a drawing, - or an explanation - that would be ever so nice.....
