Re: Lend an ear please. I like this tone....

Hey Scott, Playing sounds great as usual. So does the tone. Of course, all your clips sound awesome thru my speakers even the takes you are not to fond of, LOL. Not to derail the thread but you had a clip of Robben Ford playing "Golden Slumbers," on your website about a year ago. Do you recall what ...

Re: "Contour" control

Wow, thats funny  "G" was how Greiswig signed his last post. I was trying to clarify what you (Gil) wrote for him since you already explained and clarified so much. I "think" greiswig (G) confusion was that he is missing the fact that the BM PI is 4.99% and not 7.7%. That was what I was attempt...

Re: "Contour" control

G, I think you are confusing scaling the two different PI circuits. See if my calculations make it clear: =RT/(Rt+Rf) 4700/(4700+100,000) = .0449 100watt Convert to 50watt .0449x1.4 = .0628 50 watt 4700/(4700+ 70,000 )= .0629 That is why Scott suggested changing RF to 68K or 75K to get the 50 watt r...

Size. Maybe that doesn't apply as much today.

Kleinm, Great job.

FWIW- I am not a rocket scientist but I would guess they are built that size to fit in a standard rack inclosure!

Re: "Contour" control

Funk, Which schematic is the "Brown" Deluxe? I think the "treble bleed," circuit used in many clones is similiar to what you describe. (.001 w/ 250K-1Meg pot to ground.) On a non-hrm amp would that not pretty close? Please enlighten me (us) if you are referring to another idea. :D FWIW- Larry has pi...

Re: "Contour" control

Tubedog, That is why I was curious if the presence and resonance might be a more elegant way to go. For example, the cut control on my Rocket is fine but it can get dark really quick! It would seem that on the Dumble style amp where there is a fizz just at the top of the note you want to get rid of ...

Re: "Contour" control

Not trying to hijack the thread but instead of the Hi-Cut, do you think a resonance control similiar to TUT's or Soldano's would work in the Dumble style circuit? Something to tame the bass. I have that on my list of things to try.

Nice cab Humbucker! It looks like it has a little of the Komet design in the cab for good measure? 8)

Re: Your RIght

Hi, I have worked on 8 TW, and Ken was a mentor to me. I have Many Cards(X-mas) Schematics and letters from Ken to back it up. I miss talking with him. Ken would use what ever he had in the shop. Thats also what alot of people miss on the builds. My-co I don't believe you! Post some of the schemati...

Re: Express Volume Pot

Jem, From what you are describing it sounds like you would benefit from a split load plate resistor ala' Komet's fast gradual switch. Another option would be to replace the first 1meg resistor in the PI with a 1meg pot to dial down some of the gain and improve the range. A third option would be to u...

Re: Home-made cab for you to scoff :-D

I wound up using a cherry tinted urethane. It sucks to spray. It wants to run if you put it on thick at all. I think it looks good for what I have in it. I missed the gap between the top of the chassis & the cab but it will look fine in a bar. Buschman, I think the cab looks great. You could probal...

Re: Looking for warmth

I would try reverb and delay first. But what I did is lower the plate/cathode values for V1. BTW- Don't forget that any amp takes time to burn in and it will sound better(hopefully) after around 20-30 hours. FWIW-Like Gil, I like the Fender plate/cathode for clean sounds but I think I settled on 150...
