Re: First D-style (102) build opinions solicited & build thread:
I'll keep researching the generator input then. Found a perfectly balanced 12AX7 GE long plate in my tube hoard. Thinking it might be a good PI candidate. If it were me I would use that balanced long plate in the OD spot (as long as it's not too microphonic) and find a closely matched AX for the PI...

Re: First D-style (102) build opinions solicited & build thread:
The volume of knowledge you and Martin have documented in drawings and plans for all to use is really impressive. Other experts contribute regularly and they are appreciated as well - certainly by me and many others I’m sure. Really is a great “community” here at TAG thanks to the generous spirit o...

Re: First D-style (102) build opinions solicited & build thread:
When I did the layout for 124 here I used the same lead dress layout that was in the amp at the time ( including wire colors), Dumble generally followed this same lead dress procedure in most of his ODS model amps throughout the years (although there may be a few variations depending on direction of...

It's hard to tell from this shot but you want to try and get that grid resistor away from your heater wires (AC) on the socket (pin 1) nearest to your power supply.
The one to the right looks OK.

Re: This has always confused me.........
4th Generation ODS's (124/Low plate classic)in the layouts posted above use the toggle switches on front and the 2nd and 3rd generation ODS's utilizes slide switches AFAIK.Note that those layout drawings show slide switches,

Re: Overdrive Gain question.
The Bluesmaster design (Landreth"s ODS) has a Marshall style PI which is what gives it it's unique distorted texture vs say an earlier 2nd 3rd or 4th generation ODS which is more in the "Fender" style. So if your looking for that distorted sound in Sonny's amp then I would go with a straight up Blus...

Re: Overdrive Gain question.
Generally speaking any O.D.S equipped with HRM (tone stack) will have less gain Than a "Non-HRM"

Re: High-plate Classic
Years ago I used to install the HFT pot in just about all my Non HRM's, (.001,.01, .022) then after finally using most of the same parts as HAD (namely Sprague XF5's) as well as certain select resistors that i liked I've found there was no longer a need for the HFT mod, since then have never looked ...

Re: New 183 build
Just wondering (this is something I want to use) does anybody have any suggestions for a European supplier of the black gunk on the power resistors shown in this photo? black gunk.jpg I've seen lacquers and waxes, I'm just wondering what MrD used, for arc protection. Not sure what Mr.D used but I u...

Re: Bonamassa 50W ODS gut shot
Thanks Andy will check in with Michael. Yes, usually Bassman Iron, sometimes Magic Parts outputs. A friend who visited his place, told me he had "mountains of old Fender chassis" from which he took carefully selected parts to build people's amps. He was known to test bunches of the "same components"...

Re: New 183 build
So we know we have several different types of cap compositions like Charlie mentions that yield different sonic results ie, Polyester Polyprop, Mica etc. Then there are the voltage ratings which can also influence the sound as well. If your looking to tweak both sides of the amp then the PI entrance...

Re: Dumble Overdrive 102/183—Critical?
In your opinion, what does the Dumble overdrive circuit do for your Dumble sound that an overdrive pedal in the loop can’t/won’t? Interested in your thoughts. The best way I would describe it is? with most overdrive/distortion pedals I find that the distortion tends to want to surround/blanket the ...
