It's a Miracle!

Well, not really. Just bored. Dug out the old HP-28S after a nightmarish experience trying to use a non-RPN calculator as my garage abacus. These old double-door HPs were notorious for busting the battery cover due to a poor design resulting in 200 ft-lb of force on a half millimeter plastic tab (we...

Re: Best attenuator

Unless you require a "vintage" Staco variac, these work just fine. I have three of them. Bump that $52 to $59 and get a digital readout!!!

Hate that stuff. Gas-TV, Poo-TV, Pee-TV ... Ray Bradbury comes to mind.

Re: New Rocket build in the works :)

Really nice work. Interesting comments on getting the PI to "behave" for an EL84 "plexi". I have one on the shelf to rebuild - basically and 18W plexi with 2xEL84. Always seemed a bit fizzy before.

Re: What would you do?

RIght? That takes "aging" to a whole new Pete Townshend-esque level. Anyway, I issued a refund. Given the level of misadventure these were exposed to, I chose not to risk a second shipment and will have second thoughts on ever shipping there again. Most likely, one of the two pickups will work ... j...

Re: What would you do?

Yea. I'll probably replace them or just refund the money. Damn things even look dirty, so I wonder WTF happened here (not implying the customer did this ... had to be in transit). I'm very picky regarding the fit/finish of my product. Looks like someone pulled them out of the box, laid them in the s...

What would you do?

Been in the pickup business for close to 15 years, and have had virtually no issues with customers. If there's ever a hint of something going south during communication, I normally replace the product or refund the money and move on - maybe had to do it 4 or 5 times in 15 years. In most of those cas...

Re: Express BIAS or Grid Voltage Sweet Spot

I go by plate current using a bias meter (Bias Rite). Normally about 46-47mA at 390V on the plates, or around 72-73% of max dissipation. I guess to be more accurate you would subtract grid current, but I just go with the measured values on the meter. Not sure what that translates to w.r.t. grid volt...

Re: Clips of Rocket and Express builds

Folks -- I recently had the opportunity to demo a Red Rocket Guitars RocketMaster, and I made the videos below with a couple of TW builds I have. The first is a Mark Kane Rocket-style build; the second is a Francesca clone from our very own Fusionbear. Both are great sounding amps. See below: First...

Re: Has the Trainwreck stuff fallen from favour?

I just got two chassis (Express and Liverpool/Rocket) and am putting together the parts to build them. Seems like the interest here is less, but I was late to the party and still discovering things. The Express I built is the closest thing to the "tone in my head" that I've ever played, so I'm sold....

Re: Rocket Documents Discussion

Ceriatone has a very poor reputation here on the forums. My general understanding is: 1. They have horrible support and therefore most of the builders end up coming here to find help and we end up helping them figure out how to get their amps working. 2. They tend to use pretty mediocre quality eve...
