Re: A not so standard SSS002 build
It's a stretch to say the originals have 100 Ohm, because SSS001 has 100 ohm Pihers there. There are plenty of differences between 001 and 002. My source on the 1k is solid. Still, I do see why you'd like 100 ohm. The latter has a bit more grit, maybe a bit more responsive? Yeah 10 times the feedbac...

Re: A not so standard SSS002 build
Did one small mod to the preamp that made all the difference. Changed the tail resistor on V1b from 100 ohm to 1k, just like in the Japanese schematic. It now is the cleanest amp I ever heard. I could say clean right up to max volume on the volume and master knobs. I tested the amp with deep on thou...

Re: Drastic Volume Change on Jazz/Rock Switch - Dumble ODS #102 Clone
What you could do is measure the fizz you hear. What is it made of or how does it look like. Once you know that, you can start to pinpoint the exact location where it originates.

Re: Drastic Volume Change on Jazz/Rock Switch - Dumble ODS #102 Clone
I did some more measuring and testing. Voltages do seem correct, but I still feel like something is wrong. For example, although the clean channel sounds good, as soon as I turn the PAB boost on, the sounds gets extremely brittle and fizzy... any further debugguing idea? I'm running out of options....

Re: Drastic Volume Change on Jazz/Rock Switch - Dumble ODS #102 Clone
Personally, I do not like PAB on clean at all. Spiky without much low end. But never fizzy, but I guess that depends on the gain setting.
But please post a clip. I think your rock/jazz acts normal. I do get that behaviour in almost every ODS derived amp.

Re: A not so standard SSS002 build
This is an incredible looking build! Your attention to detail regarding part choices is impressive! I have a few questions regarding these part choices if you do not mind me asking. 1.) Could you please tell me what type of coax/shielded cable (Brand/Part #) you used for your coax runs (the bronze ...

Re: Two Rock CRS V2 layout
Depends. I usually just design a pcb in Eagle or Fusion360. Occasionally in Microsoft Visio. When working with software like Eagle or Kicad, you always have a working schematic. That limits the possibilities of mistakes. I usually place wirepads where eyelets should be, because the components pads i...

Re: Two Rock CRS V2 layout
If you’re building on an eyelet board, wouldn’t it be easy to just hand draw a layout based on a real Two Rock? I just finished a Two Rock Jet lookalike amp by the way. Two Rock used almost the same schematic for that amp. I think a very big downside of the design is the master volume in front of th...

Re: Ripper build
It’s a fun build guys, but to be fair I’d build a modded Bassman instead. The rockphonix with ultraphonix clean. 4 preamp tubes and you get all the versatility you need.
But a fun amp. Certainly giggable. The ODS’s we know have a lot more mid push. I think that would make them cut a bit better.

And why not post yet another (oh no Bas, what are you doing!) of this amp. And lease forgive the badly out of tune guitar. No, not going to make an g-string jokes here. But it was the pesky g.

Re: Ripper build
Oh and I think I did bass 60%, mid and treble both around 40-45%. 250k bass trimmer. PAB on, around 100k lift (no mega boost).

Re: Ripper build
Hi rootz, Your ripper sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing. I built a ripper last year, which sounds great on the clean channel, but not on OD. I would have to agree with Tony (talbany) when he said, 'IMO one of Dumbles worst sounding Overdrive amplifiers..(in OD)'. I tend to use my Ripper as a pedal...

Re: A not so standard SSS002 build
Thanks! No idea how many hours it took me. But wiring everything up in the chassis maybe a long working day? It is in fact a very simple amp to wire, because almost everything is on PCB’s and that saves a lot of time!

Re: A not so standard SSS002 build
Very nice build, and bonus points for the purple cab! Yes, #002 is built in a ODRS chassis, literally. You can actually see the model underneath the Steel String Singer label! Aaron Wow, I totally missed that. But now that you say. I see the overdrive reverb logo very clear in one picture where fla...
