Re: Has anyone experimented with a different OD trimmer value?
I'd like to get in that 10:00 - 2:00 area as well, the trimmer (which is also on the back panel of my amp) is 100K and sounds like it's one of those pots that doesn't have a nice smooth curve, but is really just two straight lines with different slopes that approximate a curve; there is a definite s...

Has anyone experimented with a different OD trimmer value?
I was wondering if anyone had gone "off the reservation" and experimented with a different pot value, possibly a different taper to get a smoother, less grainy OD sound, or even to get a finer control on this variable.

Re: Plate voltage trimmer pots
OK, now that I've looked at it you have me thinking of mounting it on the rear panelmarkusw wrote:Hi Pine,
I bought it from rs-comp here in Austria.
In US you could get it here

or from Mouser.
Not cheap but it does it's job.

Markus

Re: Plate voltage trimmer pots
In a D-style preamp I use a 10k 3W cermet potentiometer in series with 2k2 resistor that together replace the 22k resistor in the power supply dropping string (the one feeding the V2 node). The potentiometer allows to adjust the plate voltages for V1+V2 from something like 210VDC down to about 160V...

Re: Plate voltage trimmer pots
Thanks for the reply; that is what I was getting at; if you could add a sufficiently stout trimpot in series with a dropping resistor, couldn't you just dial in the voltage to the tube? That way if you had a really nice NOS tube you wanted to use, you could dial in the target voltage. Perhaps I'm ov...

Plate voltage trimmer pots
I was browsing through some older posts, when I came across a post by BobW in which he suggested using trimpots to dial in the sweet spots on the preamp plate voltages. "67_Plexi, thanks for your research. Based on your observations using the Mullard standard at 201 VDC and 1.2 mA, it would be inter...

Re: Amp runs for 30 seconds, then fades out
Thanks, everyone, I'll get some voltages and report back. There are some carbon comp resistors in there as well.

Amp runs for 30 seconds, then fades out
I have a 5E3 clone that has worked well for years, but now, I power it up, it plays for 30 seconds or so, then it gets fainter and fainter until there is no sound. I thought it might be a loose connection that was interrupting the circuit when it got hot enough, so I re-flowed every joint I could fi...

New project question- Bandmaster reverb
What I would like to accomplish is to build a 2X10 cab to use with my Bandmaster Reverb head (which has been modified to Super Reverb specs, ie, a 2 ohm output transformer). Is there any possible way to wire either (2) 8 or (2) 16 ohm 10" speakers so that I can get an impedance match? Barring that, ...

Re: Austin amp show
I just got back home from the Austin show. It was a blast!! Got to hear lots of amazing amps and try out lots of different speakers. Finally got to meet some Amp garage people and put a face to the avatars. Met dartanion and Ron Worley, dartanions tonic amps are fantastic! Finally met Brandon and g...

Are KT88s a drop-in replacement for 6L6GCs? Will they work well in a D-Style circuit?JD0x0 wrote:
i think in general 6L6's like it cooler so it doesnt emphisize the farty, crappy, loose bass that 6L6's usually have... which is why KT88's are now my favorite tubes

Re: odd problem with modded 50 watt Ceriatone OTS
I think I MAY have found the culprit. My plate voltage was 447 Volts, my bias was at 33, no surprises there, it was always like that, but as per Structo's comment about the tubes being the first suspect, I noticed that V1 felt a little loose in its socket. It is an old Telefunken pulled from a Fishe...
