Re: Train Wreck vs Bad Cat
Out of curiosity, does anyone know of an amp builder who has actually been put out of business and lost his/her livelihood because of clones, either private or commercial? Just off the top of my head, I can find commercial clones or kits for amps by Marshall, Fender, Vox, Dumble, Trainwreck, Matchle...

Re: another express kit on the way
I believe Ted Weber uses Asian-made iron but do not quote me as an authority on that information. I have a few of Weber's transformers and they are ususally adequate for the task. Many of them appear to be comparable to budget Hammond transformers (as Ted once described to me). I suspect Ted will us...

Re: Sweet...
But I happen to know from a Tonequest report Interview that Sonny Landreth has Internal Trimmers. I saw him A couple months ago from about spitting distance and his tone was definiteley "Crunchier" than Larry's I have read a few interviews where Landreth talks about the internal trimmers as well. I...

Re: different dumble models, basic knowledge and descriptions
A lot of the clean David Lindley work on the early El Rayo-X albums is supposed to be a SSS. Regardless if that is accurate or not, those are some nice clean tones.

Re: Sweet...
So the Dumble discussion forum ended up getting the thumbs-up. Not a bad thing, I guess. :) So what are your thoughts on the David Lindley lap-steel Dumble tone? Unlike most, I prefer slide Dumble tones from Lindley, Landreth, Lowell George, etc., to Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. I assume the 70's ...

Re: A single ended Trainwreck ?
Keep us posted on how that turns out. I have a single-ended amp using a single 12AX7 in a Hiwatt/Marwatt preamp and a single EL34/KT88 swappable output section. I have been thinking about adding another 12AX7 in the middle for a Trainwreck clipping stage and faux phase-inverter but have not heard an...

Re: express or liverpool?
Thanks for the kudo's but I think you may have me mixed up with David Jones. He has come up with some "wrecky" ideas using weird tubes and etc.Doug Didn't you build a Firefly version of a 'Wreck and play around with both self-split and a long-tailed pair? I was thinking of some threads from ...

Re: Would you like see this board expand the discussion?
While a Dumble forum would be interesting, I find that the Robben Ford, Larry Carlton and Steve Kimock forums get enough Dumble content for me every now and then. When you put Trainwreck fans next to Dumble fans, it seems somebody starts a comparison thread which inevitably causes an ugly fight to b...

Re: clean switch
It would be an interesting idea if you could implement it. I am not sure how much the interstage RC networks that Fischer used for the Liverpool/Express circuits would mess with the basic Fender topology underlying the Trainwreck preamp. The British-flavored output sections of the Liverpool/Express ...

Re: express or liverpool?
Doug, are you using standard 12AX7s for the other three triode preamp stages or are you changing the phase inverter or preamp setup? I am just curious. I have always watched your 'Wreck-flavored threads over at AX84 closely because you seem to be pretty good at putting the Wreck idea into unexpected...

Re: New Komet
After giving this matter some more thought, I want to apologize if any of my prior posts in this thread were unfairly critical of any member here, including Rheingold or rocket. I think this thread has made three things abundantly clear: (1) Every member here has a great deal of appreciation, admira...

Re: New Komet
RANT MODE ON: Judging from Rheingold's posts, something about this "I know Ken Fischer from way back" stuff is not adding up. For example, the claims that Ken Fischer's contact information has not changed since the 1980's and that Fischer's phone number still works are not true. The advertised telep...

Re: New Komet
No offense intended to Rocket or anyone else, but the public dissemination of internal pics and schematics of Trainwrecks, Komets and Airbrakes are not going to hurt Ken Fischer's pocket book in any measurable amount. For one example, if you do a quick Internet search, you can find a gut-shot pic or...

Re: Pics of my build
I am a big fan of smooth-plate Tele ECC83/12AX7 tubes as well. For some sounds, they just work better than Mullards. Probably not in a Trainwreck though. I was also going to say "Nice pair of Sylvania 6V6s!" but it sounds like you prefer the RCAs.
