Re: Pin 1 and 8 - 6L6/6CA7/EL34 Cathode Bias
Some Traynor guitar amplifiers had their EL34 suppressor grids connected to the negative grid bias, without any apparent ill effects. Opinions on the advantages of this procedure are mixed. For additional information/opinion on suppressor grid machinations, primarily in the tube hifi ecosystem, sear...

Re: Antek Toroid PT questions
Many years ago an Australian manufacturer of rackmount solid state power amplifiers released, to much fanfare, a new range of "low profile" amps. A toroidal power transformer was used to fit the amplifiers into a 2RU chassis. Unfortunately the steel top cover of the case was just touching the top of...

Re: Antek Toroid PT questions
Just a couple of thoughts on mounting toroidal transformers - not specifically Antec related. I usually attach the transformer mounting bolt to the chassis with "mudguard washers" ( "fender washers" in North America ). The washers are used above and below the chassis to reinforce the chassis and spr...

I'm on the Aussie Guitar Gear Head forum, joined there 18 months ago or so. They don't send out pm notifications either . . . On the AGGH forum, email notifications can be altered in your profile settings, under "Personal Messaging". This feature is normally on by default, so it must have been disa...

There were a number of problems with early Marshall DSL/TSL amplifiers which are documented here: http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/TSL122.html

This would now be considered a textbook example of a toxic waste dump.

Re: What was the first album / CD you bought?
My first disc wasn't an album, though both sides had a medley of songs. It was a 10" 78 RPM disc of The Modernaires singing highlights from the movie "The Glenn Miller Story". [img::]https://p2.liveauctioneers.com/897/25218/9250560_1_l.jpg[/img] The date would have been about 1959 when a neighbour g...

Re: Orange-ish build
There is information about this rectifier configuration at Merlin's Valve Wizard website: http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/bridge.html Merlin does not describe the circuit as a bridge rectifier, but rather as a pair of two-phase rectifiers orientated in opposite directions. Perhaps C Moore was justified...

Re: Orange-ish build
.....Are you still saying that is a bridge rectifier.? It certainly is. The transformer centre-tap in that circuit has a DC potential of exactly half the B+ voltage. This is why it is being used as a reference for the mid-point of the series filter caps - note that there are no balancing resistors ...

Re: No phase inverter
"Self split" is an idea which bubbles to the surface fairly regularly. That particular implementation is a mite inefficient - 400mW clean output from a pair of 6L6's.

My avatar is a vintage Australian valve advertisement. I don't own the original paper version though.

At the current exchange rate, that's about $145,000 Australian dollars . . . but eBay reckons the vendor may not even ship to Australia.
Damn. Missed out again.
