Tonic Amps, NYAS, Premier Guitar
Here's a link to the video of Premier Guitar stopping by Tonic Amps at the New York Amp Show. Tonic Amps is Darin (Dartanion here at TAG). They have a very nice demo of his Absinthe amp head using a telecaster. Congratulations Darin! I'll do my best adding the link. First time trying to do so. [/url...

Re: My first build: 18w TMB
Structo said Another tip is when you are soldering to the tube pins, be sure to have some old junk tubes in the sockets beforehand. This will prevent solder from flowing down into the pin. If that happens you will have difficulty installing the tubes later on. I had that happen one time and it was ...

Re: Heater Wiring
Gibsonman63 It is a little easier said than done getting those wires into the preamp socket lugs, but I should be done with that tonight. I'd be really curious to know the proper techniques for fitting 2x18awg wires in 9 pin socket lugs. I was tearing wiring out right and left from failed attempts o...

Re: Rocket Red Molly
Thank you all for the kind comments. rj, I found the "Rocket Tweak" thread and saved it for later reading. I will probably keep the amp as is for awhile to give all my guitars a chance through it and let my mood swings cycle through it as well. I can't tell you how many times I've found a tone on ot...

Re: Rocket Red Molly
This is my 2nd wreck including the sub-mini Rocket project that rj came up with. I'm a beginner as far as amp building goes and chose the Rocket because of it's stability and easier build compared to the Express or Liverpool. I had a blast building this and enjoy playing it tremendously. Not sure wh...

Re: Rocket Red Molly
Mark, Thanks for the compliment I went with 260-0-260 I might mess with the leads a bit and add the resisters off the rectifier heater to quiet things down a bit, not that it hums that bad as it is. I was thinking of attaching r2 directly to the socket and using shielded cable to it instead of the w...

Rocket Red Molly
Allow me to introduce Rocket Red Molly to the forum. the name is from the Richard Thompson song "'52 Vincent Black Lightning. This is my third build, first that isn't from a kit. I want to thank the unbelievable resource that is this forum and brilliant membership, without which I never would have g...

Re: Hilarious Thread on TGP
Now, I have shown, TWICE that theory and "real world" agree. "Book knowledge" and "real world" are only different if you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. To the natives of a remote tribe that has never seen a camera, radio, or television, each of these things would appear to be "...

Re: Dwarf Tube Rocket Amp
Thanks for the welcome rj. I must admit to being a bit intimidated by the expertise on this site. I'll chime in if it might contribute to the discussion but will probably just observe for the most part. I'm mostly just a guitar player and wood guy with quite a bit of guitar repair and a couple guita...

Re: Dwarf Tube Rocket Amp
I am playing it through 2x12" English greenbacks that are in a Marshall Bluesbreaker cabinet. It sounds fantastic with these speakers. I also tried it with an old Celestion Lead 80 that's in a Demeter TGA3 combo. It sounds good but not nearly as sweet as the greenbacks. This is a gem of an amp. I'll...

guitar finishing
I've finished a few instruments over the years. The process for each one was pretty much the same. 1) After final sanding/scraping any open grain woods (ex. mahogany) should be filled with a paste filler. The filler can have pigment added to it if desired. I use small amounts of artist grade oil pai...

Re: Saw Jeff Beck last night...
I might as well make my 1st ever post be about my favorite guitarist. I've loved Beck's playing since I first heard him...solo on Evil Hearted You. I think Goodbye Porkpie Hat is possibly the best electric guitar recording made with Cause We Ended as Lovers being a close second. It's his phrasing an...
