Re: 18 watt layout questions
I do see what you're talking about with the wire crossing on the phase inverter in the Triode layout. That's something I overlooked at first glance. Ok that convinces me to go the Valvestorm route. I was thinking about going with Classic Tone transformers. I used them in my JTM 45 build and in my 5F...

18 watt layout questions
Can someone please explain to me the difference between these two layouts? I see the obvious differences in values and everything. Just noticed The Valvestorm layout is quite different and I was wondering what exactly to expect sound wise from each layout? I'm wanting a vintage warm tone that can br...

Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue - Drive Channel Mods?
Love the clean channel of this amp but looking to make the drive channel of this amp less brittle and warmer sounding. I've already replaced the stock speaker with a Celestion Greenback, put 6v6 power tubes in, replaced bias resistor so the amp can actually be biased to correct value. Anyone have an...

Re: JTM 45 - First two preamp tubes won't light up
I re-hit the filament wires with some solder on the tube sockets and now it seems to be working great. Tubes light up with no issues so far. Amp sounds great. No issues. Thinking it was a cold solder joint on the second preamp tube that was causing it. When I first opened up the amp it was not worki...

JTM 45 - First two preamp tubes won't light up
I have a problem with my JTM 45 build. It only happens once in a while and other times the amp works just fine. Once in a while I power it up and the first two preamp tubes won't light up. Obviously I get no sound from the amp when this happens. The third one closest to the power tubes will light up...

Re: Help: 5F1 build flutters and buzzes on power up
This is absolutely not a wiring error. Famous last words. :P This isn't related to the issue you're having, but I seriously doubt you intended on using a pair of .22uf rather than .022uf coupling caps. I'd say that's an error. Just thought that after you get that puppy working properly, you'd like ...

Re: Help: 5F1 build flutters and buzzes on power up
Let me get this straight, you built a amp without owning a simple 35 buck voltmeter!? +1 on that. Heck, you can buy a real cheap DMM at Harbor Freight for $10. For $35 you can probably get one at the now bankrupt Rat Shack, Sears, Home Despot, or Blowes. This is a must have. I had one. A nice one i...

Re: Help: 5F1 build flutters and buzzes on power up
I don't have a spare 6v6 but I do have a 6L6. should I try that real quick to see if it works? I know its higher wattage tube so thats why I'm not sure about trying it out.

Yes, it still did it.
I can't take voltages because I don't have a multimeter. I can borrow one tomorrow and get voltage readings.

Help: 5F1 build flutters and buzzes on power up
When I power the amp on it flutters (almost a skipping sound) and has a bad buzzing sound. When I plug a guitar into it you can hear it but it's very quiet even when turned up to the max. When it flutters I can see the glow in he power tube fluttering. I've went through the wiring front and back doz...
