Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005

Since Ive already had a prototype happening it wasn't much for me to mess with filter & reverb mixing section. I tried the circuit you so kindly provided beasley and I can report it works perfectly. I tried changing & omitting various components and it was for the worse. It works best as is. For exa...

Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005

Thanks erwin, I realized that there were resistors under the heat shrink .I assumed one of them was the 270k resistor that connects to both hi & low filters. The other I assumed was the 12k to ground on the bass filter. I need to take a closer look I guess. Some of those AN pics are confusing. On one...

Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005

Thank you for your great work and sharing beasley and niusia ! I have been spending some time trying to work out/come up with making the filter section work with the reverb mixing with fender style reverb setup. Difficult to balance wet & dry signals , get enough top end response and gain levels all...

Re: Valvestate 8040 Intermittent

Intermittent. So I accept this job from a Cygnus amp owner, and it cuts out to no volume after warmup. Changed THE TUBE. No difference. Banged it on the bench, now it doesn't cut out anymore. Guess I'm screwed now! Nothing worse than troubleshooting something that seems to work when it's supposed t...

Re: Use of 220uF and 330uF in bass channels.

Not stock ,the rest was though. I would have thought this completey crazy but it worked a treat. Adds 'more' with no more flub than a 220uf or 330uf. Thanks for your reply Mark, apologies but I don't understand. Sorry , maybey I wasnt adressing your question Mark. I used to think 220uf & 330uf valu...

Re: Use of 220uF and 330uF in bass channels.

Thanks for the info Miles. I've read in a number of places the 220uF or 330uF is over kill. To be exact Blenecowe's Pre-amp book (1st edition) page 26 chapter one. The link has some of the info, but not all of it. (A damn good read all the same!) http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/Common_Gain_Stage.pdf B...

Re: Bludotone EL34 HRM

Thanks for the reply on the caps. We don't see NTE or CDE caps in Australia. http://direct-components.com/osc/index.php?cPath=22_39 Mark, Ive purchased any Mouser product from these guys here in Australia http://www.x-on.com.au/ They use same part numbers as well, must be agents. Cheers

Re: Let's Figure out the PI with Cathode Follower Driver Tub

I think that Schemo is labeled wrong, #4 doesn't have the CF Driver tube (only has a standard dumble PI) Agreed. SSS#4 is setup differently. I think that that schem is actually for SSS#1, which has tremelo and a CF Driver. @Stratoblaster: Thank you! You've saved me some time redplating and swearing...

Re: Let's Figure out the PI with Cathode Follower Driver Tub

Would this work? I worked this up using the values from the SSS #02 schematic that was posted. But, I've never worked with one of these before, so I figured that I would share and look for some input before wiring it up. I tried this driver circuit from SSS #002 but had no luck with it. Output tube...

Re: What distinguishes a SSS from a Dumbleland?

From this I would deduct that the 2 Reverb CF/mixer tubes would be omitted in those amps along with alot of their feedback networks too? Interesting given those touting the CF/mixer tubes being a part of the SSS "magic". Or maybey HAD found a way to include a CF mixer with only 2 reverb tubes to pl...

Re: What distinguishes a SSS from a Dumbleland?

Hi All, Thought I should chime in for once for those of us interested primarily in the EJ & SRV SSS tones. It appears from what Ive read , those newer generation SSS amps may only have 3 preamp + PI + Driver tube = 5 tubes Not the 7 that are documented in the more complex earlier 100 watt ones. From...

Re: Reverb Thumping

It may not be the problem but Id also check for my pet Fender hate: the fiber board being conductive  . Many years ago my 71 Super Reverb drove me crazy with this. Ive also had the misfortune recently to find even a new replacement board having the same problem, particularly during hot humid w...
