I just received an email saying Classic Tone Transformers is going out of business
I used them exclusively and absolutely loved them.
Sad day.

Re: Need schematic drawing program
Before I had my CAD system I used Express/PCB-Express/Schematic.
Easy to use and if I remember right on one of the forums someone had custom components for tube amps you could download.

Re: 5E3 first stage interference
I've come to the conclusion that like Reeltarded said, there's nothing I can do to get rid of it. I did some experimenting and this is what I found. I tried out about every amp I own, ones I built, Fender, Peavey, etc., in my shop no guitar plugged in at full volume. All of the amps make the noise. ...

Re: 5E3 first stage interference
I've had a bit of a breakthrough with the amp. While beating my head against the wall trying to figure it out I noticed the ticking also went away depending on where I was standing. So I turned around to see what might be causing the interference and realized my router and modem were about 7 feet be...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/afcRAGb_GVM" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> Here's a video of the problem. The customer said it was doing this while in the cabinet also. I do shield the back panel on the amp. Still not ...

5E3 first stage interference
I have a 5E3 I built for a customer about 4 years ago. It just started having a problem with the first state motor boating. With either volume up there is a constant ticking. You take the 1st stage out of the equation and it's fine. I can grab the 1st preamp tube and it stops also. I've tried every ...

Re: solderless terminal blocks on DIN rail
It could come in handy for that.
I like to use substitution boxes for that kind of thing.

Re: solderless terminal blocks on DIN rail
I use these all the time at my job.
I don't consider them very useful in amp building. For the size of an amp chassis they would take up a lot of space. They work great if you need a lot of wires coming to a single buss, not very practical for a point to point amp.

Re: Custom Vibrolux Reverb volume issue
I owe Sluckey a beer
I replaced C35 which was mounted on the main PC board. I then thought I should check out the caps under the cap pan. I found 2 caps that were starting to leak so I ended up replacing all the power supply caps.
Problem gone! The amp sound great now.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Custom Vibrolux Reverb volume issue
Yep I have a scope, I couldn't live without it :) This ones a head scratcher for sure. I've been trying to pin down the problem & here's what I've found. I pulled V3, V4, &V5 and it's still passing signal to the phase inverter. It's a weaker signal but still a clean signal and it's .7 volts. The vol...

Custom Vibrolux Reverb volume issue
I have an amp on the bench that's testing my troubleshooting skills real good. It's a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb. It's a PC board amp with the tube sockets mounted to the chassis and leads from the board to the sockets. The issue is the volume controls on the amp. All the way down there is still ...

Re: 6L6 Hole Covers?
When I had some of my chassis water jetted out I didn't want to waste any material so I included files for octal and noval block off plates. Definitely didn't waste any material, I ended up with about 70 each of the plates. Message me and I'll send you a couple if you'd like. I have plenty :D The no...

Re: Solo Boost Methods
A trick I use quite often is to lift the ground from the tone stack partially or completely.
In one of the amps I designed I use a relay and pot to give a footswitchable & adjustable amount of boost. It works great.
