Sorry, I should've been more specific. I'm trying to keep it within $300 each.CapnCrunch wrote:I think you'll be hard pressed to find a pair of Celestion Blues for $300 or less, even if they're used. You might find a used pair for around$450.
I think you could get the Weber blues used for $300 or less.

I'm wanting a 2x12, somewhere between 30-50 watts total depending on what I decide.jaysg wrote:The best bang-for-the-buck is probably the Red Fang. Are you trying to use just one with a Rocket?

Which alnico blue for a Rocket?
Which one would be the best? I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on them ($300 or less on a used/new price). Between the Webers, current production Celestion, UK Celestion, or other. Explain why it would be tonally best...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
There's one thing that I noticed. The volume completely cuts out when the treble is anywhere form 0 to about 3 'o clock, it starts to get a bit scratching before it cuts out though. Would that be because its bad pot or something? This isn't a huge deal to me considering I never bring it down that l...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Nice work you did. I'm started building a TW Liverpool amp for my son. On the back of your pots I don't see ground wire. On a lot of photo's of TW's, and the layout of Ceriatone you see a 'bus bar' ground on the back of the pots. How did you do your grounding around the pots? Greetings, Adrie RJ se...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Well if everthing is working fine I would go back a shorten up those wires to get rid of long loops which can cause issues (leed dress). The Rocket is the most forgiving of the three Express, Liverpool and Rocket but still it would be a good idea to shorten the leeds. I'm glad the amp is working fo...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Follow pin 2 that is going to R6 and pin 3 is going to R5 cathode bias resistor and pin 1 is going under the board to the volume pot right? Yes, all of those are correct. The blue wires, in the picture, appear to overlap and it looks wrong in the pictures but I've double and triple checked everythi...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
V1 is definitely wired incorrectly and you need go back over those issues. You have pin one going to the volume pot when it should be pin 2. V2 is wired correctly as well as the PI (V3). It has a loop underneath the preamp board. EDIT: looking back at my pics, it does look wrong but when you're act...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Tries the bulb limiter tonight. I used tubes. The bulb came on and the pilot flashed and then didn't come on at all. The tubes didn't glow in any fashion. At this point, would it be best to just call my tech up since I don't know about cap safety? I lied. I tried it with my guitar and a speaker and...

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Finished pics (besides the power tube cathode cap has to be turned around and some wires need to be organized). Being my first amp build, I'm excited and nervous, it definitely doesn't nearly as good as most of the amps I see around here.

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Here's hoping it fires off first try and blows you out of the water. The more I play mine the more I love it. I highly recommend the start up procedures detailed in the Express build guide. The bulb limiter is cheap to build and helps you reduce the chance that you will fry something much more expe...
