Tonal difference in cabinet versus out.
Has anyone noticed the tone change when they installed their express into a cabinet built to original specs. Mine seemed to darken up a tad. Or am I imagining things ? Could the cherry be serving to dampen out the chassis and cut out some of the microphonic trebly side of the beast ? I have to say w...

Re: Express Build with VVR and ext bias adjustment
Steve have you, or any on here, thought about offsetting the handle to the right to compensate for the weight on one end ? I've been toying around with this but not sure how accepted it would be. I think it would be easier to carry around sitting level and not down on one end. Looking for opinions o...

You just need wider necks. That's what I do.M Fowler wrote:Tell me about it, I have very large hands and fingers so my lead playing is suffering the older I get, damn arthritis and fat fingers.

Re: 3.15AC-0V-3.15AC
Maybe I'll answer my own question. The Marstran transformer has a tap for 3.15 & 3.15 which = 6.3 VAC accross the two wires. All the transformer diagrams I have seen show a 6.3 tap with an arrow to the other 6.3 tap, therefore 6.3 VAC. The 3.15 tap with no arrow to the other 3.15 tap faked me out I...

Re: 3.15AC-0V-3.15AC
The only difference is the specification terminology. Brian correctly specifies his transformers as 3.15-0-3.15V, which is correct. Others may be specified 6.3V centre-tapped, which would also be correct, as this implies 6.3V across the secondary with a centre-tap in the middle, so also 3.15-0-3.15...

Re: 3.15AC-0V-3.15AC
You've done well Piperbob. Normally you can just ground the centertap and I believe that is what they actually show in the layout.

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem
And for the record, the distortion doesn't sound bad to my ears. It doesn't sound like a bias problem. It just sounds like the amp volume is near max when it is only set to 9:00. The sweep on the volume control is fine. 0 ohms at min, 250k at noon, 500k at max. When listening to this clip, my amp N...

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem
I hope I don't overstep my bounds here but you do realize his guitars volume is turned down and he has his coils split to single. My rocket screams with the volume set at 9 o'clock and my guitar wide open. It's not like a metal amp but it rocks. If you want clean, turn down on the guitar and if you'...

Re: EL84 Tube Shoot Out/ Rocket
I'm in agreement with Jana, I think the tube has a poor vacuum. If it's just a poor vacuum rather than leaking, then eventually you might see that plasma use up the residual nitrogen in there and the tube will work out O.K.... but I'm skeptical of that. A little bit of gas can make plasma for a ver...

Re: Express Build with VVR and ext bias adjustment
I see you 45'd the edges of your sides. How did you join them? I'm mulling over how to join my cherry in the corners right now. I used biscuits in my TW cabinets three per corner. I thought about that. I'm also tempted to dovetail them as well. My Rocket (which I like the best) is in a 2-12 combo r...

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem
I can't really see in that picture all to well but usually you leave the resistor lead uncut on one side and loop it back around to the shorting jack stud. There looks to be a small solder bulb on that post but the pic is too dark for me. This is how fender does it and it's purpose is to quiet the a...
