Re: Fizzle Noise
Well it would appear that my output tubes were damaged. The breaking up at 1/2 volume was eliminated by swapping them out to another pair of output tubes which worked fine , no breakup. After checking their bias, the current on one is off from the other by 6 ma's when before they were dead matched. ...

Re: Fizzle Noise
Got my pots in and installed. Pulled all cards and installed a different type of jumper wire. Got a couple of tung sol reissues to go with my ge 12ay7. Absolutely no microphonics whatsoever (Even from the wire off the center wiper of the volume pot). Tone stack works as it should and this thing soun...

Why would you want the anode to the chassis?

Dropping zener acting funny
I'm using a 350-0-350 with a 50 volt zener on the centertap to ground (anode to bolt). When I power up I'm seeing 500 volts. I haven't gotten to flipping on the standby yet. Is this normal and will it drop when I come out of standby?I have a heater winding issue still to fix so I'm down for tonight ...

Re: Fizzle Noise
I noticed that. It appears that people are using a ring terminal around the shaft between the pot and the chassis and tying that to the buss , is this correct?Structo wrote:Just be aware that the PEC pots are stainless steel and you cannot solder to the back of the can.

Re: Fizzle Noise
Well , not only have I not been able to find it, I've managed to make matters worse... I changed all my Russian coupling caps out to orange drops and I've lost my tone. What was a beautifully warm sounding amplifier is trebley as all getup. Passfan, Out of curiosity, what brand and series of Orange...

Re: Fizzle Noise
A new set of PEC pots should be in by early next week. Should have them installed by next weekend and I'll post results.

Re: Trainwreck wire
That's what those in the electrical field refer to as bell wire. You might google that term and find out a voltage rating. I'd hesitate to use it in a tube amp if it were me.

Re: Problem with my Express. Help
I am gonna pull the bypass caps and check them.is there an acceptable tolerance for the bypass caps? guess i should have checked all the patrs first. you live you learn. I would double check the values of my bias resistors and see that the caps are installed with the correct polarity. If they look ...

Re: Fizzle Noise
Rawnster had this exact problem and it turned out to be a loose leg on his (inexpensive) Bourns volume pot. He changed it to a PEC pot and the problem went away. It seems the rivet that secures the lug onto the carbon trace can sometimes either be loose or get loose. I think you have danced all aro...

Re: Problem with my Express. Help
Do you think a bias resistor could be a wrong value? Might have an effect on gain. Perhaps a bad bypass cap?

Re: Problem with my Express. Help
I can't figure it out. when I bring down the guitar volume(any guitar) the amp starts to break up and then shuts off about halfway. changing tubes has no effect. plus after checking out other TW's I noticed mine does'nt have as much gain. power out the ass, but not the gain as the ones i listened t...
