Re: Ben Harper cleans an amp:

Just saw the news that Brian Wilson passed, may he rest in peace. Hi Max, thanks for sharing that. I had forgotten about the whole fake amp debacle with Mason.... Do you think it is possible/probable though that Brian Wilson had a 50W and a 100W amp? It seems odd that Ben would misread the serial nu...

Re: Ben Harper cleans an amp:

Thanks for sharing, this looks like grail era for sure. 100W. Ungooped resistors are mostly Q-Lines/dralorics. Looks like corning metal film screen resistors? 300uf mains filters for effective 150uf capacitance. Cap can for v1 and v2 filters with a metal film dropper. LNFB at v1. Tandy (or probably ...

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....

Glad to hear your daughter is doing better.

If you are moving the FET board to the back of the chassis, you may want to run shielded wire for the input and output connections to the FET jack.

Re: MB 5 band equalizer

This is a really cool project! Might be an interesting use case to box one of these up with a dumbleator. Then you would have a plug and play EQ with many amps.

A good habit is to test everything as you're placing the component.
If you will build a lot, investing in an LCR meter can make the process easy (mine).
I second this and the Peak LCR, it's fantastic.

Re: ODS Filtering Question

A probably does mean Axial internally but those are specific to FT's brand. See Typ AZ as well for dual cap with the shared lead a-la Fender style cathodes (Z may likely mean zwei - two). It's probably German because the screw terminal types are called G. Regardless those caps say Typ A on them and...

Re: 1978 Dumble ODS 50

Mr. Roy was kind enough to message me back. He did not speak specifically to this amp and whether HAD, Roy Brothers, or some unknown tech did the work. He recounted to me that the amp chassis designed in Santa Cruz by HAD were not suited for 4 noval tubes (seemingly in his understanding of HAD's opi...

Yeah I saw that too, but question whether that effects loop buffer is really original? Maybe in the sense that the importer installed it before selling? Maybe if you just ask the importer? https://www.instagram.com/kittyhawk_dumble_amps_roybros/p/DHYdB-cohnY/ https://www.instagram.com/p/DC46RGDxXtx...

Re: Dumble 102 amp testing

Are you using a guitar patch cable for the speaker load? You can damage your amp doing that. You really need a speaker cable. Not sure why that would cause an issue unless it's a really cheap or damaged patch cable. Even if it's somewhat thin wire, it's only a foot. Cheap or damaged speaker cable w...

Re: Dumble 102 amp testing

Are you using a guitar patch cable for the speaker load? You can damage your amp doing that. You really need a speaker cable. The voltages will be low until you remove the current limiter. You should keep bias as far negative as are you can set it, remove current limiter, and then fire up the amp to...
