Re: High-plate Skyline build

Thanks for your reply Ian. The amp seems in many respects to be a forerunner for #183. Very intriguing!

Re: High-plate Skyline build

Hi Ian, so i've picked up on the el34s. I'm guessing this might have a high B+. Don't worry if you don't want to answer this one.

Re: 3rd Gen build

Update: I've swapped out a few resistors for period correct ones and this is really turning out to be one of my favorite amps. I ended up ordering a cab with vox grill and brown suede so I'll post an update when that arrives. I also changed the PS dropper from a 22K to a 27K after reading a post wi...

Re: High-plate Skyline build

Hi Ian, what a fantastic build! You really know what you are doing! I am really impressed by your chassis build. I think the vinyl lettering works really well with this chassis. I take it that HAD silk screened his lettering .....or are you going to tell me that he used a vinyl cutter!!!! Would you...

Re: High-plate Skyline build

Beautiful work. How did you do the white lettering please, Ian? It has come out very sharp. Thank you. I have a vinyl cutter and it does a great job. Sprayed with black gloss Krylon, applied lettering and then hit it with Krylon clear gloss. As I learned, make sure to leave at least 24 hrs. between...

Re: 3rd Gen started

I can't see any separate marking in the photos other than how the caps are labeled. I wonder if members here who have been inside 2nd and 3rd Gen amps might chime in and share more info? For what it's worth, those old Sprague 6ps and Di-film caps tend to be marked correctly. Yes, you will find one ...

Re: 3rd Gen started

In the photos, is the orientation indicated by a mark added by the builder, or a factory label, which is likely to be random in orientation? Re: 3rd Gen started

In the photos, is the orientation indicated by a mark added by the builder, or a factory label, which is likely to be random in orientation? Hi Martin, the caps are factory labeled. Modern 6PSs aren't labeled. Here are a couple photos of 3rd gen amps showing a whole board and a close up...#70 and #...

Re: 3rd Gen started

Stunning amp you have built here, Ian. The attention to detail is stunning. One thing I have learned recently is that the cap foil orientation on these 2nd and 3rd generation amps was very different to the later amps. The photos that I have studied indicates that the 2nd generation amps all tended t...

Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.

Another quick update. I did a very brief bit of experimenting with the 1m2 bypass resistor on the funky OD entrance. Last time I was in the amp I put a 670k piher in series with a trim pot and liked the sound set to a total resistance of about 920k. I decided to reduce that resistance further to abo...

Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.

Ok, so here is what I think is the final circuit. I tried out a number of things and came to this conclusion. Firstly, I oriented the foil ends of the caps toward the pots as per #40. Second, I changed the mid pot to a 715P for a “clearer” mid range. Third, the V1 & V2 plates made a massive differen...
