I had a Chieftain and it sounded great. I've played Alternative, classic rock, blues and country using only one distortion pedal. The build is unique but it works. The only problem is you go through power tubes. EL34's don't like hanging upside down!

I went back to what you see on the schematic and the amp sounds great with the exception of the limited bass and treble control. I jammed for a 1/2 hr unconsciously with my SG. So, I'm back to square one. Trying to broaden my tone controls.

No, I'm not mixing the EL84's with the high power tubes. I have an on-off-on switch to switch between the two. Putting the grid resistors at the tubes worked! Works great! There is some tone tweaking, but it sounds pretty good! I feel like dumb-ass, but I'm happy!
