Re: Tweed Cabinet Build
Sweet tutorial - whew, looks like work. I was holding my breath while you cut those corners, painted the glue, and fitted the bits together. Nice. Makes me appreciate all the more the value of a tweed cabinet well done. Gotta ask: What's the "Burn" knob about? Thanks for the kind words. Here's what...

Tweed Cabinet Build
Tweed Cabinet Build – Mack Skyraider SR-30 Quad The Cabinet With this project, I hoped to learn something and also contribute to others who might want to try building or covering a cabinet in tweed, but like me couldn’t find a whole lot of information on the subject. This was my first attempt at bu...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
Picked up a new CTS pot, installed it and let the amp burn for several hours, played it for another hour last night and it's dead quiet. No screeching when the tube was out, again, dead quiet. I noticed the other volume pot was replaced with a CTS as well and when I thought about it, I remembered it...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
Well pushing a pot around is probably going to result in noise even on a good pot as the carbon track is being moved. It would be beneficial to start from the beginning as suggested and carefully go over everything especially grounding. This has happened to all of us at one time or another where we...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
The same type of thing happened to me once. It turned out that I completely missed adding one of the ground wires, and that was after I checked and double checked the schematic. I'll check that again, but the amp seems to have been working fine for quite a while. I have run across a few cold...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
If it's an alpha pot? Then yes probably. Alpha pots sound fine, but dont like to be solderd too much. It doesn't look like they are Alpha pots. Some who purchase the Weber kits will upgrade to Alpha or CTS, but others feel the pots that come with the kits are fine. I think they are fine as they see...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
Forgot about that volume pot. Is the pot of poor quality it maybe have gone bad. Chop stick around the volume pot area. When I push on the middle pot tab of volume 1, it makes loud popping noises. Moving it slightly produces the static noise, even after I re-soldered all the connections. Is this po...

Re: Volume Pot Noise
Try retensioning the tube socket pin holders they may have become loose. Mark Interesting Mark, when I shine a bright light from the inside of the chassis through the tube socket, the light shines through all the holes except pin hole #2 which looks completely blocked. Does this socket need replaci...

Volume Pot Noise
My Weber SuperReverb clone has been working great for some months now but seems to have developed another problem. It's got similar static noise as before but now when I remove the second tube (12AX7) that connects to the "second" volume pot (pin 7), it screeches very loudly. The screech can be turn...

Re: Boogie Studio .22 Repair
i had one on the bench last year with a similar issue I touched up all the solder points and cleans the the pots and tube socket pins. I also replaced the preamp tubes, as they tested low. The amp fired up nicely. My DC-3 also started to have the same problem, which was fixed with exactly this same...

Re: Input Jacks
Gents, my apologies for getting back so late on this, it's amazing that no matter what intentions you may have of doing something, family members tend to make other things happen for you, instead. Anyways, I'm rather puzzled but also happy with the results, at least, so far. After doing the simple t...

Re: Input Jacks
Any idea what causes these messups, I don't recall there being anything observably wrong with the jack.Structo wrote:That won't do any good if the switching part of the jack is messed up.
It's like a little leaf spring that contacts the ground to the input when a plug is not present.

Re: Input Jacks
Bypass the jack with alligator clip jumpers from the guitar cable directly to ground and the jack side of the input resistor. That'll eliminate the jack. You need to stick something in the jack that'll open it. I doubt that's the problem, but I recently had 2 bad jacks that kept me busy for while a...
