Any reason why you went back from ef86 to 12ax7, mat? I am right now tweaking a double el84 86 special inspired build; went down with the anode load of the ef86 to 86k only and added the triode pentode blend control from merlin blencowe, both to get the gain into controlleable levels. What i still d...

Re: Ethos Pedal
Exactly why techie people in the audience drive artist crazy. The music lover would be enjoying the performance where as we are figuring out equipment. Mark To me thats not an either/or - I enjoy to do both. Never failed to enjoy robben for example. It typically gets me thinking after the show - wh...

Re: Ethos Pedal
Seriously, listen to Robben Ford's live sound, many times a Twin or Super Reverb and a Zen. It doesn't seem to matter what he uses, a lot of it is him. Beg to disagree - heard him live with his dumble and with a Twin-Pedalboard combo (with his Zendrive) and it was night and day. Of course you can h...

Re: Ethos Pedal
I do own an Ethos OD with the TLE and a Ceriatone ex Bluesmaster, modded to ODS HRM by now. Soundwise, the Ethos is a very nice pedal - it produces lots and lots of overtones in OD mode, and it has a dynamic feeling that a miss from pedals like the Zen (which I tried both as original and also built ...

Re: Ceriatone HRM vs Bluesmaster
Hi everyone. I'm new to the form and have a question. I'm looking to build one of these two amps, unfortunately no opportunity to play them for decisions... I'd always go for the ODS over the Bluesmaster - I bought a Ceriatone Bluesmaster used and didn't like the tone at all; way too dark, so sort ...

Modifying the EQ
This is a little confusing for me. When I set out to build the Bluesmaster, I was told that the clean is on the fender side and the OD was more on the marshall side. Should I be looking to change the tonestack to a skyliner EQ? Is there much else that needs to be changed in a Bluesmaster to bring i...

more like 6L6
I'd talk to Brian at Marstan. He'd have some good transformers for EL-34 equipped amps. Another option would be the Music Man transformer set. Sure, for EL34 versions that would be a decent option. However the 100W lot typically runs with 4 6L6s, and I guess most Bluesmasters were loaded with 6L6, ...

To coin an American expression "size doesn't always matter. I'm with you on this Andy, as I already mentioned in my original post. Just wanted to make sure people know, that we're not talking about physically small transformers here but more excatly quite the oppoiste, and I'm also quite confident ...

Ceriatone ODs
He uses cheap iron in general and Asian components so don't get too excited about authentic tone. The chassis are on the thin side. However his build quality otherwise is competent. Have to contradict on that one, since I recently got hold of a 100W Bluesmaster HRM from Nik, which I mostly bought o...

Re: What can i take from a dumble and add to a plexi?
One element I ALWAYS add to Marshall'ish amps that come through my shop: a 250K trimmer in stead of the two plate resistors on the phase inverter. The stock Marshall design is really unbalanced, and kan overly stress one side of tubes, leading to redplating, etc. The 400V B+ 50W JMP 2204 I have on ...

Re: Big differences 6L6 Svetlana Winged "C"
Hi , Today I replaced the svetlana 6L6 on my ODS Clone 100w(run about 37mA), I restored with a new quartet of Svetlana 6L6 winged "C". After turn on the standby (with same bias setting)I seen bias current rise as far 65mA , almost twice of old tubes. Have anyone ever found similar differences with ...

Re: Preamp sag
seems plausible to me. but on some amps, notably plexis, the b+ will sag 90+v when running flat out and the screens will sag even more, suggesting that you have lots of preamp sag as well Yes, sure - when the Powertubes draw lots of current everything sags - including the preamp; however the thread...

No preamp sag?
Seems like the effect is mostly non existent - I do now have data from another Dumble clone, that mostly confirms my own measurements: preamp sag of B4+/B5+, if there at all, is at max around 3-5V, typically more in the 0-2V, even with the high dropping resistor (22k) that most Dumble schematics hav...
