...or a very unbalanced primary on the OT. I found one once that had unmatched resistance on each leg of the primary.

G12-65

So I picked up a pair of 16ohm Celestion G12-65's yesterday, well worn with some home-grown repairs: spider and dustcaps re-glued with silicone, but really cheap. I've been wanting to hear some as the D-cloners seem to love them. I figgured I could get my money back around here if I didn't like 'em....

Re: Master Brightness Caps in Non-HRM Amps

I have an amp built for me by Henry (Red Plate) that has no brite cap on the master. I took it off. I don't use the brite switch. There is one brite cap in my d'lator, but I can't remember which pot or value.. I'll look if ya want me to. I play Tele's most of the time, but I do have a PRS SE and a J...

Re: Taming The Treble

The speaker cab is a Crate that I got used at Guitar Center for $100. I have no idea what the speakers are. It could be that the speakers themselves are just bright. I have not had the chance to try it with another cab. Start there. The Express circuit is pretty picky when it comes to speakers, in ...

Re: New songwriter 30 video

Hogy: thanks for chiming in. I would love to hear more about the Songrwriter evolution process with Ken. I'm sure you have great memories of that relationship.
I do trust your ears. I have see/heard you play live (in the 90's).
Just my opinion.

I would try 0.68uf cathode bypass on V1. My favorite bass reduction solution.
YMMV

Re: VH100R just died after putting new tubes

I used SB fuses on the mains and FB on the HT. You can use SB all around. Some do. When the time comes, the fuse will blow. Just ask my ex-wife.....

Re: Dumbleator Tweaks, Settings, etc. to Retain Dynamics?

Gi: Is the loss of dynamics in the send or return part of the D'lator? An experiment you might want to try is to run just the send portion of the D'lator in the loop. See/hear/feel how that affects things compared with nothing in the loop. Then patch in just the return portion of the D'lator. That m...

Re: Lets Talk About V1 Tubes

Mr Dumble had installed Chinese tubes in my friend's HRM. I have no idea of the type or vintage, but it was re-tubed by HAD in '98. I don't know if that helps at all..

Re: Dumbleator Tweaks, Settings, etc. to Retain Dynamics?

Gil: I can't get brite caps dialed in right. Ever. If I get lucky and nail it at home, when I gig, all bets are off. This includes brite caps on the volume, master, and d'lator controls. I guess I don't have the patience to twiddle that much. I just want to play. I get more mileage out of my presenc...

Yessir. You can buy pots with the switch mounted in a push-pull arrangement:

Re: speakers for SSS

Mav: You keep metioning the G125. Your gonna make the price of my favorite high power speaker skyrocket if you keep that up! They are rare enough as it is! I'm just picking at you, of course. It's a great speaker. I have 1 in a tuned/ported cabinet that is a gem. I've heard that they sound good in o...

I would use it in a pinch. Twist the center conductors like you said before and move forward. You can always go back and retrofit later. That's half the fun with this hobby/obsession...

Re: Switchable cathode bypass capacitor for Bassman 6g6B

Imagine this: the existing cathode cap and resistor arrangement using a small cathode cap, say a 0.68 or 1ufd. Then, in parallel to that, add another cap, say a 10ufd to 25uf, using a SPST switch in series with the cap to turn it on and off.
Good luck!
