Re: Used Fender "The Twin" for $200
Is he using a template because he's determined to have exactly the same measurements as Fender? This is not something that would matter to me. Just think how easy the template will make doing another board down the road. Won't even have to print a piece of paper and stick it on. Plus, when doing wo...

Re: Need a Little Help UPDATE!
Wow Tom, somehow I missed this thread over the weekend. I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers. I know somebody that had Thyroid cancer and she is still doing great. It is not an easy thing to deal with. I hope everything goes well today.

Re: Used Fender "The Twin" for $200
Now I see why he's not asking much. Well, "much" is a relative term here. That's in pretty bad shape. Also, don't confuse this with older or even later 70's Twins. This Twin is representive of when Fender didn't have their manufacturing ducks in a row. (some would argue they still don't) It h...

Re: Used Fender "The Twin" for $200
All I can add is that this is one of the lesser desirable Twins from a purely playing amp standpoint. I would think even with a bad speaker and tubes this amp could sell for $400 easily. I would check it out closely for any other major problems.

Re: Heat Shrink
I was taught when servicing certain devices such as a tuned circuit in a radio not to straighten any caps or coils as it can change the tuning. Tempting as it is, not a good thing to do in a RF or other tuned circuit. Yeah, this has always been my understanding too. And believe me, I love to staigh...

Re: Amplified Nation Tolex Tutorial
Eric, Have you used that Weldwood yet? It works, but not the best IMO. I've used it for a couple of cabs but it doesn't quite have the sticky factor that I want. I've used the stuff from Mojotone and it works a little better but they are inconsistent with quality. I got a lumpy batch last time. I c...

Re: How to Get Knob Off Holy Grail?
The shoe string is a neat idea. The EH knobs are just "press fit" on and should come off relatively easy. Use something to protect the enclosure and get something to slip under the knob and gently rock back and forth slightly while applying pressure upward.

Re: Non-amp Bass Guitar Setup Question
You have probably already considered this easy solution: have you tried heavier strings? Yes I did/have. And you know it may be all that's needed. I just put the same guage that was on it previously. Which I imagine are standard for bass (.045" to .100") Also, I didn't want to suprise the owner wit...

Re: Non-amp Bass Guitar Setup Question
For a beater, not a quality instrument, you can get around this by putting in some back bow, then dressing the frets out level. When you release the truss rod and string it up you should get enough forward relief to make it playable. The downside of course, is you'll take the frets in the middle of...

Re: Non-amp Bass Guitar Setup Question
Yeah, shim won't help, if you can already adjust string height how you want using saddles. Maybe you'll have to raise the action at the nut. Where is it fretting out or buzzing? Thanks, it's fretting out at various spots on every string. As far as raising action at the bridge, seems like it will ha...

Non-amp Bass Guitar Setup Question
Hey all, even though this is not an amp/electronic question, there are so many multi-talented technical experts here that someone may have some suggestions. A friend gave me a Yamaha RBX-170 bass guitar to setup for him. (it's one of those cheapies that could be playable if everything is built prope...

Re: Effect Pedal building
There is one: "PCB Layout for Musical Effects" http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=679 Does anyone own this book? I thought about buying this already, but I have a feeling he's already written, posted on forums & his website, etc. (for free) most everything that buying this book isn't necass...

Re: Effect Pedal building
The easy way to deal with the cramped pedal quarters when assembling is to do most of the wiring while outside of the box on a flat jig that matches your enclosure layout. Geofex, great pedal building resource, now has univibe-clone pcb art and info for retrofitting an old wah shell, the UVICS-3. +...

Re: Effect Pedal building
I just finished the PCB for a neat little 9-18V boost converter intended for use in pedals and such. It's a single sided 0.675"x0.675" board (about the size of a nickel!) with low parts count and meant to squeeze into very tight quarters. This will be perfect for those flangers and boosts that want...
