A Liverpool Clip

Post by fishy »

I am a big fan of the Liverpool and it is my favorite of the TWs. I love all of them in some way but I always come back to the Liverpool.

A friend of mine was good enough to do a clip for me and this pretty much sums up why I like the Liverpool so much. As a rock amp it is fantastic. To me it has a spongier feel to it and is less demanding than the Express. The Express still rules for a clean to mean, the Rocket kills for a pedal platform but the Liverpool just never fails to impress in its own way....

Its my trusty Greco LP through a Scumback in an openback cab.

Thanks.....

I posted previously when I built it. Changed from this point are a grid stopper on V1 more for radio noise than anything else. While I was in there I put screened cable and grid stopper on the 2nd stage although I can't tell any difference from before. I was going to revisit that but I am less inclined to mess with it.

Liked the clip,

i once heard somepne make a comment like that one.. said it sounded like a cat had its tail caught in a rocking chair

But was probably correct, because if you have heard the song by Eric Gales, sign of the storm, where he kicks in the wah on high with all the gain, it does sound like a cat screaming..

Cool!

Ever since I heard the overdriven tracks on Brad Paisleys instrumental album (all of which are his Liverpool, according to interviews I've read) I've been wanting to try to build one.

I've looked around here for some clips, and read some threads but the Liverpool definitely seems to be the Red Headed step child of the Wrecks. I don't understand that personally. I think that this clip sounds great, and just re-confirms for me that I will build a Liverpool when I get the money together to buy the parts and pieces.

Thanks!

Of my 3 clones (express, liverpool and rocket), I would put the express & rocket joint first - with the liverpool a close second. My son in law likes the liverpool best... It is a brute to keep under control.
Can't help smiling while i play it though

Here is a thread started by Dana Hall r.e. a half power Liverpool combo.

I think the conclusion reached in this thread is that it is totally possible to build the Liverpool as a combo.

Fishy, Is this build "stock" per the Liverpool documents here on TAG? With the exception of the grid stopper of course.

Hey Fishy, great tones! All of your builds sound good; and this one is especially nice. I've been itching to build a liverpool for about a month now. You're pushing me over the top. I think there's nothing cooler sounding than cranked el84's.

Pretty much. The tonestack is wired like an Express as is the presence but other than that and the gridstoppers, it is stock. Heyboer trannies.

Nice work Pete... if you go back to the Derek Ferwerda posts I put up a year or so back he mentions that several of the Novela "Liquid Earth" cuts were done with a Liverpool. great sounding amps!
