Finished My First Rocket

Post by Matt D »

Finished off my first Rocket today and it sounds better than I could have imagined. Very detailed and dynamic. I put some of the filter caps on the board and used a 32/32 can cap for the first filtering stage. The PT is an Edcor from RJ and the OT is a Hammond 1650N. I grounded the preamp stages to the input jack and the rest of the grounding is standard Wreck. Thanks to the forum for all the information needed to build the amp and to forumite Local for his help and advice.

Congratulations! These are incredible amplifiers and they are quite versatile... good job. After you get a little more time with her it would be good to get your feedback. We don't have much data on the Hammond transformers in the output section (or power section) so this is an interesting build to learn more about. Thanks for posting this up! rj

Nice job! ...and I love the messy bench too... Reminds me of home.

That is a good way to make the tone board with the filter caps right smack in the circuit I like doing as well.

The Rocket is a great amps that will take pedals well.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just took the Rocket to band practice for the first time and got to hear it in context with drums, bass, and keyboards. The tone is better than I could have hoped. My bandmates were impressed! I'm really pleased with the sound of the Hammond 1650n but I don't have anything to compare it to.
