Rocket in progress (Clip added)
Thought I'd post a couple of pics of the Rocket I'm trying to finish. It's not a traditional build as I've used a 36W Marshall type chassis, so it's not that much space available. Not sure how this will turn out regarding noise / hum, but I've decided to give it a go.
I've stolen some ideas here and there and the layout is a mix of a couple of amps. This place is a great source for info.
Have anyone here used the MM10CH choke for a Rocket? The dc resistance is a tad low, but perhaps if I up the screen grid resistors to 470ohms it will work fine? I've used it in a Marshall build before and I really liked how it gave that amp more balls!
Here are some iphone pics of the build:

Dood! You used "those" caps! I'm excited!

And those Takman resistors!!!Reeltarded wrote:Dood! You used "those" caps! I'm excited!
Re: Rocket in progress (Clip added)
and Styroflex instead of SM. This will be cool.
Re: Rocket in progress (Clip added)
Power board done and transformers and standoffs installed. The chassis work was a pita.. I think this is the first and last chassis I'll ever drill & punch. Just too much work.
I think it's about time to heat up the solder iron and get to work soon.
Anyone have some input regarding that choke I'm about to use? MM MC10H
10H @ 200ma @ 290R. Too little resistance or can I up the screens from 100 to 470 - 1K and be okay?

Re: Rocket in progress (Clip added)
Your choke will be fine. You only need about 25mA. I have built several Rockets with 470 ohm resistors. They all sound great. Keep up the good work.

The heaters are done and it took a while. I caved in and used the drill to get it right. I also made a little board for the cathode resistors and caps.
The Switchcraft jacks are gone and replaced with Cliff jacks. Thought I'd try out the Larry grounding scheme.

Boy this amp looks spectacular !! My only concern would be your condensers. Maybe its just my amp, but my rocket gets Hot !! I haven't measured the temp. I just know I have a hard time trying to sink enough heat to run a vvr. It may be to warm for the bees wax.
Re: Rocket in progress (Clip added)
U got anything behind the caps/resistor board for the PA to protect it from touching the chassis? Seems real close
Re: Rocket in progress (Clip added)
Great looking head cab! Cool faceplate design: creme pointers, retro cartoon rocket logo, jewel lamp. Purple tolex and gold piping tops it off!

I don't use the bees wax versions in this amp, so I don't think that it will be a problem. The ones I use are tin - and aluminum foil mylar, rated to 85°C working temperature.
Yes, there is a 1.5mm polycarbonate plate behind the board.surfsup wrote:U got anything behind the caps/resistor board for the PA to protect it from touching the chassis? Seems real close
