6V6 tubes Bias

Post by loupy31 »

Hi All,
I have been thinking of trying out a pair of 6V6 tubes in my Xpress,
What is the recommended Bias setting for those tubes.

-30V same as for the EL34's. It never hurts to check the bias, you should see about 22-24mA per 6V6 plate.

What Cliff says is right. What ever Bias Voltage it takes to get 22-24ma on those 6v6 will sound good. RCA and Tungsol sound the best, also the flat base JAN 6v6's sound good too. Philips or GE I think.

I've had great luck with grey glass Sylvania's too in my Express. My best pair of 6V6's are some Sylvania's from right after WW2 ended, they're in military packaging with the dates clearly labeled. Sound killer, but so do any of the XF2/XF4 sets I put in that amp!
