No offense to any TW purists but has anyone ever tried paralleling the two halves of V2? Just using jumpers with no extra parts? I tried searching for any posts but after a time I decided just to ask.
Just curious.
Parallel V2?

Re: Parallel V2?
I bet it would sound pretty fat.I like the way a paralleled tube sounds on the input of an 18 watt amp,not sure how it would sound on a 'wreck.Only one way to find out!
Crystal latice or vacuum, that is the question.

Okay, I just found some info about this:

Re: Parallel V2?
I just went back thu this with the parallel triodes. I built a little single ended Top Boost amp. I tried the PT's with the TB pre, but I thought it was to fat, and lost that sparkle the Vox tone can have.
Check out the Matchless stuff on schematic heaven for ideas tho. http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heav ... st70s.html

Re: Parallel V2?
I'm thinking it would be better to use the unused triode as an extra gain stage, cold bias it and adjust the V2A voltage divider to get the gain level right without a squealing, wretching mess of feedback.
A friend over on the Hoffman forum did just that and he says it's awesome.
Not a 'wreck per se anymore, but killer nonetheless.

Re: Parallel V2?
Thanks for the link. It confirmed what I thought so that's exactly what I did. So far it sounds a tad fatter, not too much, and the noise floor is lowered. But I haven't really cranked it yet - this sucker is WAY LOUD so I'll have to take out to my shop at the right time.leadfootdriver wrote: Check out the Matchless stuff on schematic heaven for ideas tho. http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heav ... st70s.html

Re: Parallel V2?
I found a 1978 Vox AC30 schematic where they use the 4th triode before the PI. I tried it out in my little single ended test amp, and I think it's great, It's real dynamic.
It's a 47k plate with a 4.7k cathode resistor unbypased. They also use a .1uf coupling cap into the PI, but a .047 would work too I'm sure. Try it out.
