Calling all technically unchallenged people (stereo rocket)

Post by Reeltarded »

Yeah! If I build a stereo reverb rocket are you going to help me?

Octal outputs.. If I build it in a 100w Marshall size chassis you'd think it would all fit, huhmmm?

It's going to got to have that 4 varistor M'gnatone 480 wiggle snot thing.

Lots of power supply in there. It's what I am least best at. You are in for a rough ride. The reverb needs to be just before the PIs which will come right after a split loop, so don't be silent now and later. Tell me no so I can just go with two plug-in 100w mono block transistor power sections and I will still be happy, sort of.

I think I will call it the Saturn V2 in homage to the Apollo program and the stinking scourge of wartime London.

Do I really want to do this? No. It's a whim that might keep me from murdering another Marshall.. for now. Muhahaha

Easy to you to copy my layout; draw a 22x8 inch rectangle. See all that space in the middle? I need stuff in there. Thanks, and have a safe trip.

More like bloody!

Think about it. I am not asking for a lifetime committeement. Just a bunch of drunks to stand around and throw consonants at my vowels.

I already put out feelers for Martin to download all the relevant schematics so he will have everything he needs to build this thing over the internet after he lets his dog out every morning at 2, 3:30, and 5:18am.

I'm trying to get the skinny on some new production silicon carbide varistors.

Sounds interesting!
Ready for the ride... rectangle drawn.

What kind of iron are you thinking? How many power tubes?

2-Octal x 2? ... Dual Rockster?
4-Octal x 2? ...Bat s#@t crazy?

OMG 4x2 are you crazy (comma) of course I am.

Nah, just 50w-ish a side. The iron will depend on the tubes. Gotta think it out now that we all have tights on and got our horses out. lol

Hmm. Gotta go look at stuff now.

Ok. Classictone because I trust them and it keeps the cost of transformers under $5,000,000.. Probably a single PT like they have in the custom/project listing because it has dual voltage taps so I can use the low ones, plus it has a beefy current spec, and plus I don't know any better. A pair of their 50w standup outputs. I need a deeper chassis like a Hiwatt for what I am thinking. Power on front right corner, outputs back middle with op tubes on both sides and the preamp section leftish and forward in a row like a Wreck.

See!? It's a Wreck! Just like one. Swear.

Since it's a one time affair prolly Takman REX and REY all around and that is as far as I got.

Pretty knobs.

There.

I have a block diagram.. in my head. It's a few rectangles inside a larger rectangle. I will probably add circles.

Opinions?

You might need some lines to connect the rectangles and circles. If there are areas that you aren't sure about, add an occasional squiggly line--it helps you focus your concentration on that spot.

Oh, yeah, pretty knobs is where the tone is at.

I'm actually not supposed to look at this thread because I would be in the 'technically challenged' category... but I'm too curious to keep quiet.

So, where is it stereo? After the loop, or will it have two preamps?

Will it have one reverb circuit? Will it be for one side so the other is dry?
Are you going to do the single tube reverb? What about the old ampeg reverb everyone raves about?

I did really well there not to give an alternate connotation to "pretty knobs"

I am not so couthy. I just can't think of anything snappy to say. :)

Matt, my reverb has to happen before what I hope is the Magnatone vib circuit so the verb wiggles. I just considered it.. I think the loop is mono and before the reverb, a simple signal break. I can't see a need for anything but a tube echoplex there and that is it's own buffer and makeup.

This is to replace a JC120 head and a 4x12. It will be nice to have something as warm as a Twin that can compete with 50 or so watts of drive sounds and be a lil more compact if not kind of weighty. Heavy, man.. Very heavy.
