Just wondering if anyone here has ever tried to build a TW using true point to point/ deadbug consturction? Do you think this would help with crosstalk and grounding issues? Could it cause issues?
Just a thought.
Thanks for looking.

I though about doing this to build a rocket. It's less gainy and therefore easier to get away with it but I got old vector board and flea clips and decided to go the old traditional way.
Still I fancy this idea. No experience there yet!!

I'm mainly here to read discussions, however this topic calls for a response.
I have built a Rocket with the PI and poweramp of an Express, based on true point-to-point construction.
If done right there shouldn't be any issues, but I don't see any advantages of ptp perse. Keep in mind that this is a lower gain Rocket preamp, I'm not sure how this would translate to an Express for example.
In my experience the same rules apply as with traditional board construction as far as keeping sensitive areas away from noise inducing parts.
The next one to build will be traditionally wired again, saves you a lot of (re)thinking the layout.

Have done a couple but used some tag strips here and there, e.g. for the filter caps, and PTP for most of the rest.
I agree with matt h, pay special attention to the PI section (I rebuilt one x3) but take care with the whole of the tone stack on the Express. PTP in itself is not going to save you from ground or cross-talk issues, that is down to your choice of layout. And yes, your layout will have to change to accomodate PTP - so you are on your own if the gremlins are let loose.
Below are my cluster f**ks which were about using old parts in small real estate. (Already posted in older threads.)
These builds started out with good intentions, but after you have have to sort a few cock-ups you are left with an unappetizing tagliatelle! All stable und sound good, just don't peek under the hood.

True point to point
I've built my take on the Rocket and use true point to point construction
throughout the build. Not quite as tidy as using the terminal post board construction however. My own layout for all components and it is very quiet, as free from hum that you can get with a conventional tube guitar amp circuit.
My Quad 36 amp has dual preamp channel switching and a switchable tone stack boost along with some other extras like efx loop and half/full power switch.

Here is a random and dirty demo I created a few years back.

Re: Anyone ever use true point to poind /deadbug to build exp
I've built a number of Express themed amplifiers using point-to-point construction.
A recent example:
[IMG:640:480]http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr333/valvetone/planet/c098a9dc-b53b-4e69-afc0-1a5076e3b871_zps0775320e.jpg[/img]
[IMG:640:480]http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr333/valvetone/planet/70a53f93-de06-4385-a510-5f8d4a51b518_zps23a6f7e4.jpg[/img]
This amplifier uses the Express preamp and PI circuit values, a post-PI master volume, EL34 output stage and a voltage quadrupler power supply.
Its gain and 30-watt output are similar to a traditional Express, but it has no instability and no significant hum. The chassis is a Hammond diecast aluminium box. Once the lid is attached, it acts as a very effective shield for the underside of the chassis.
A complete build description of the older ( non master volume ) version of this amplifier is here: http://www.guitargear.net.au/discussion ... 969.0.html
Note: there is a mojo-inducing mustard capacitor in the preamp.

that is really good
a lot of thought and planning went into that one
