I always go to my Fluke 117 DMM and I have around 8 or 9 other cheaper ones lying around basement and garage.

The cheap free ones from Harbor Freight work just fine.

hmm.. who thinks nhantruong2346's first and only post here was spam to try to sell DMMs? He bumped a 6 year old thread just to list the features of the meter he uses.

Can't argue with Fluke.

Agree with an earlier comment too. You don't need to break the bank if this is primarily for hobbyist use. Here's a reviewed, nice looking autoranging meter:

There's no discussion about Fluke, very good - and with a markup for the name - but there's several cheaper instruments that are very good, and in my mind ( and experience, because I've used them) a par with Fluke. Amprobe and Appa are two that springs to mind, if one wants to save a buck or ten...

I saw an EEVBlog video on the Aneng 8008 something and it is like 25$ and tests out quite high quality

If you want to go for good bang for the buck.

Nothing warms up a room full of geeks like a discussion of DMMs.

Yeah, couldn't resist. It's very good for the price. Surprisingly small--it's easy to accidentally drag around the bench when you move your leads!
