Yeah, that's why I chose that. I'm getting a better feel for the laser and what works and doesn't work. I so wish I had one of these as my own. I'd be doing such neat stuff over the next year. I had just started working on a design for a jewelry box or humidor that would be completely laser cut and etched and maybe even inlaid. No time for that now.drhulsey wrote:I am amazed at the 3D So much detail in so small a spaceLonely Raven wrote:Another fine cherry plate made tonight...

Re: Laser Engraving TW faceplates-A Photo Guide!
I only have about two weeks left on the laser engraver before I'm moved to another location at work. Man I wish I could afford one of these myself!!
Here are some of the last few custom jobs I've been comissioned to do:

And some test burns for what's looking like it might be my last *custom* plate as the Koa is still a week away from getting to me:

Thanks, Doc!
It's the same job, just a change of location (Which I'm not happy with honestly...but it's closer to my new home).

The last of the "custom" faceplates.

I've been sick for a while now...knocking me on my butt. Today was the first day I've had the energy to get this done. This was for a family friend who was constantly asking how it was coming while the faceplate sat here untouched for six weeks. He procured some fantastic Koa from a wood worker on Hawaii.
The laser really had trouble digging into this wood. Probably the oils and the density. While it's not as dense as Purpleheart and Bubinga, it was just as difficult to burn.
It doesn't help that it's black laser etching on a richly colored wood, but damn I love Koa!

Here are a couple more faceplates that Eric etched for me. I really should take a couple more pictures, because it looks like the colors don't match that well on the Liverpool. But in natural light, it looks fantastic. Up close, the detail is fantastic. Eric truly did some fantastic work.

So um....a blast from the past.
Here it is, more than 10 year later, and I've finally bought my own laser engraver....
I'm sure there's other guys doing this already, but if I can find my old files, I'm going to try and pick up where I left off!

I recently engraved a Rocket faceplate for a friend. I have a $200 500mW blue laser. Worked great!

Glad to see you make a return! I still love the work you did for me! What the heck have you been doing with yourself anyway? You dropped out for 11 years....
Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Beautiful work. Love the faceplate and the cab.
