Are the photos above clickable to view for you? I don't have a current image host to work off of.
I tried 6V6s, and they work. They do make the amp less brutally loud, but they also seem to get less overdrive and in general the sound of the amp is less focused. I don't prefer them.

Look forward to hearing your advice on the build.

I changed preamp tubes in my last express, something that made a great difference.
V1: tungsram (amazing)
v2 RFT or tungsram
v3 simens/halske long plate

Well, yes, if you are a member of the Marshall forum. Since I am registered there, I'll download them and post here for others to view.jelle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 3:31 am Can you post the pics in a way that they can be viewed here?Matthews Guitars wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 3:39 am Are the photos above clickable to view for you? Sharing images via link to an image hosting site (or any other site) is not ideal, as they tend to disappear eventually. Best to upload them to this forum.

Maybe I have to get a paid membership to be able to upload photos? Is that it? Because I don't see an option to upload photos here as of now.
The most obvious quirks about the way I made this:
The power board and preamp board were built with two entirely different turret styles. I changed styles midway, and decided it wasn't worth the effort
to redo the other board with the new turrets. Both get the job done.
I went with a current style Marshall impedance selector.
I went with two multisection canister caps instead of six discrete 20 and 40 uF filter caps.
Incidentally I bought 10 of the cement block power resistors. I still have 9 left if anybody wants one for a build.

Strange that I never noticed it. Never looked down toward the bottom of the page. Or maybe it has something to do with my blind spot lower in my vision range, which is always there whether I notice it or not.

FINALLY got the cabinet built. Still need to decide on a handle for it.
My cabinet builder had a slight misunderstanding. Originally I wanted only the face panel to be blue, and leave the rest of the cabinet in a more natural maple color range. But honestly I like this better!

That's some nicely figured lumber there, and I like the blue!

Nice looking cab, did you build it yourself or did someone build it for you?Matthews Guitars wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:07 am FINALLY got the cabinet built. Still need to decide on a handle for it.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I had a local cabinet builder make it with maple I provided. I let him make it ONLY because I don't have a dovetail fixture. Otherwise I would have done it myself.
I'm now seriously considering making another. Such an amazing amp, and I know people who've played it and WANT ONE.
I know that carry handles aren't typically found on Trainwrecks. But they sure make life easier when you have to move them. What are your thoughts on this subject? If you equipped a clone with handles, how would you do it?

If I had to have a handle Id probably have a hand hole cut out of the sides of the cab.

There should be pictures here of people who have done that.RockinRocket wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 12:06 am If I had to have a handle Id probably have a hand hole cut out of the sides of the cab.

I'm thinking it just needs a lip on the inside back of the cabinet to act as something to grab. Nothing that would be seen on the outside. Balance would be an issue, but when is balance NOT an issue on an Express built with the transformers both on one side?

If your going to gig this amp youll probably want to transport it in a flight case. The wood would take a beating. You can pick it up from the lips on the front valance and back.
