Hey Dusty, very cool. Sounds nice! How quickly does it break up?

Thanks for the compliment. The amp breaks up fairly early. With the amps settings at 12:00 the guitar volume pot is cracked open to around 3 for the clean tone with a gradual break up from there. She screams with the guitar volume cranked. I don't do that to often. That's when the real screaming starts.  Anyone else have that problem? For the speaker and cabinet combo. I'm using a 100 watt 12in. Carvin loaded into an open back Mojo Marshall extension cabinet. I plan to upgrade to a 2X12 closed cab loaded with Scumback M75's like Rawnster uses. :) I sure that will make a big difference.

Rawnster what cabinet are you using? Thanks. DB

Dusty, the one that holds the scumback M75s is an old avatar closed back 2x12.

Dusty,

Very nice always great to hear these Rockets. I was surprized when you said the speakers was a carvin. They have good speakers but the 75 watt ones I have do not project that kind of tone, better for the express.

Nice amp!

I have found that even with the volume at 9 o'clock it is on the edge of breakup. I consider 12 o'clock pretty distorted, assuming your guitar volume s at 10. Not much difference in volume though, which makes sense, since all you are doing is clipping at that point. The cleans are very nice.

Great tone on your clips, for both clean and OD, the sign of a good amp IMHO.

Rocket #3

Post by DustyBadlands »

I finally finished Rocket #3...Here are a few pix. I will post voltage readings and a sound clip when I have a chance.

V1-Old Telefunken 12AX7
V2-Old Mullard 12AX7
V3- Unknown maker 12AX7 but labeled (Thomas). From old organ I think.
Saratov EL84's
I finally broke down and bought a nos Mullard GZ34. Dam things are expensive!

Thanks to all for the great info on this site! Sure helps a paint by numbers guy like me. Learning more all the time. :D

My next challenge is trying to turn a Hammond Amplifier model: H-AO-43-1
Tubes: 2 - 6BQ5, 1 - 5U4, 2 - 12AX7, 1 - 12BH7 into a guitar amp.
The PT is beefy on this thing. I have not taken any voltage measurements yet.
I was wondering if I can turn it into a half power Rocket or something?

The combination of the dark cab, silver control panel, and Chrome badge in combination with the silver speaker cabinet looks killer.

I really like your badge.

I've been batting around the idea of taking my Rocket out of the wood cab and putting it in a tolexed cab that will look better with my speaker cabinets.

They're just standard black though, so it still won't look trick like yours.

Well done!

Love the angle on the silver cabinet's baffle, I imagine cleans up the internal reflections as well? I'm starting to design cabs, (1 week in  ) looking for ways to do things a little different...

Beautiful look, awesome sounds..what more could I want?
