Switched the PT around, installed the OT, tried to keep things pretty clean. Oddly enough, the input jack AND volume pot decided to go at the same time. I replaced the jack, I don't have a replacement pot on hand. (I knew the jack was going, I don't know what the deal is with the pot.)
The pot is giving me outrageously loud hum up to 9 o'clock, then it works normally. I'm getting different hum than before, but other than the volume pot problem, it's less than before, and it moved from the power section to V1. Except for the part failures, I consider it a positive step.
I have been thinking about replacing the ceriatone shielded wire--it's junk. I do have shielded wire running from the Vol to V1.
The jack is straight up mechanical failure--I think there is a good chance my toddler plugged a cord into it and pulled it really hard. Just a guess, but pretty likely. I replaced that with a metal jack. The jack, not the toddler.
The pot I think is bad, too, I rewired the bright switch and I felt some weird movement in lug 3 (or is it 1?). I'd be surprised if I overheated it, but who knows. I don't have a replacement pot right now, but I will be in SLC over the weekend and am going to try to hit Ra Elco. If anyone knows a good elec supply place in Vegas, I would love to know about it.
I figure I'll replace the pot before I do anything else, then see what I've got.
