Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
I've just finished a 5W liverpool thats pretty much identical.. It started life as a Komet but the Komet pre-amp really didn't do it for me at all!
The liverpool one is much closer with it's 50pF tonestack.
The grid leak after the 100nF cap to the power tube before the 1.5k Grid stopper.. which on yours is 220k, try increase this to 1M if u want more gain which is nice.

Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
also exactly which Output transformer did you use? because I used the absolute cheapest one I could find here in the UK and it's not exactly great and I've love to find a good heyboer piece of iron to stick into it.

Here's a video of my Absinthe amp in action:

The player here isn't familiar with how to work a wreck, but it still gives you a good idea of the tone.
This is a wreck style parallel SE amp that retains the PI so that it reacts similarly to an Express. Lots of changes to make it work the way I wanted, but still retains the Wreck charm. It's running 2 Tesla Black Eagle EL34s, but will run most all popular octal power tubes, even mixes.
BTW-
Nice job on the mini wreck Steve! Very cool.

Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
i was thinking of building something like the derailment 2, but with a different tonestack , working on the schematic right now. has anyone ever built one of these ? or tried a wreck preamp with a cathode follower as 4th stage ?
Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
Does anyone know if you could build something similar to the mini-wreck using a 6BM8 in place of the el84 and 12ax7 in v2?
Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
sure, it has been done before, i saw a schmatic using an ECL86 somewherencusack wrote:Does anyone know if you could build something similar to the mini-wreck using a 6BM8 in place of the el84 and 12ax7 in v2?
Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
Any Idea what kind of changes might be needed to use a 6BM8? I know its supposed to be pretty similar to a 12ax7 and el84 in one.

here the schematic from the page:

i have never used either tube, so i can't say soundwise. you might have to adjust loads and cathode resitances, but the principle is the same as with the ecl86

Re: The Mini Wreck Lives !!!
The 6BM8 is a great sounding tube. The triode section is like a 5751 (low noise/microphonics too IME) and the pentode is like an EL84, you can get a nice raunch and it makes a lot of sound in a tiny package.
