Hey guys, i was getting parts to build a airbrake, and the big adjustable resistor that mouser has been out of i found elsewhere... said they came with 2 clips, which i assumed was the adjusting ring... but they meant mounting clips...
it only came with 1 adjusting ring, anyone know where to get more of those rings? or a part# fo that ring at mouser.....
I ordered 2 of these big resistors and will only need 1... (ordered 2 cause it said they came with 2 clips... figured i would have 4 clips... oops...) so if anyone needs that part msg me..

Re: DIY attenuator
Thanks slib, that online components one brought up like 8 parts though... which part # is correct? just 2125e?

Re: DIY attenuator
nevermind... its the 2125.. found it.. place takes $30 minimum orders:( bah!

Re: DIY attenuator
Is -3dB attenuation OK? Get it completely transparently by halving the amp impedance, plugging the attenuator into one speaker jack and speakers into the other (not into the attenuator).

If you're making an airbrake, I've got a "suggested mod"

You can add a relay to jump across the adjustable resistor so that you can get a footswitchable boost. I've got mine set to go from 4 or 3 to setting two, but you could just as easily add another little adjuster ring for the boost setting, too.
It works great to get a louder clean sound or as a solo boost.

Got it all done, I must say that its bout the best $80 i have ever spent in amp gear...
I have a marshall master lead 100w that i have never been able to play past bout 2, at least not for more than a minute.. and the airbrake tamed it right down for me:) (i was only running on 2 output tubes)
One thing that surpises me though is the ammount of heat this thing makes... i expected heat.. but damn... also suprised that the ground side resistor gets quite a bit hotter than the positive side..
think im gonna drill holes in it for cooling
