So, were not really looking at X10 guts, but a Sadie instead?

Strange looking coupling cap coming off of V1's plate.

rel-cap. appears to be a polystyrene from the description. also the amp can't be a sadie because the sadie 1st stage is an ef86 according to their site. rh

Yea, that note confused me as well but it looked like the X10 format was preserved in this amp very closely (though not a 100%), so I posted the photos. The Sadie is also 15W but a 12" cab with "higher end components" from what I read and remember. So aside from "better components" (branding) I figured the majority of the circuit was similar to X10.

Gees its been interesting to see the evolution of this amp thru the original pics then the head pics and now these fresh ones.
PRP resistors have upped the build price and are very sweet, in my express/komet, the change to all 16uf mallorys also. I reckon the original clips sounded amazing, but i do understand the MF R's being used at least in the plates of a higher gain amp.
Yeah last i heard i was 12mnths from order date which is like another 2 months. Hope the aussie dollar holds..

rhinson - Have you tried these caps yourself, BTW? Man, they look really interesting. IF you have tried them, can you report a comparison to, well, say silver mica? Thanks.

8 bucks for a 470pf cap? Wow. Really wanna hear the difference.
I do agree that mica caps lately have been failing for dc. Ive been using styrene now for a few builds also the pio k40y-9's in that value.
But for 8 bucks, i might just get one to try!

Colosso - At least on this last group of photos the two black wires heading off to a choke are pretty obvious, and at the right junction.

IMO, FWIW, considering what's available out there for chokes and at this voltage, it's got to be the Hammond Rocket choke @ 411 ohms? 1K for a choke on an EL84 amp is a bit overkill I think, eh, but doesn't seem to be any pics of the backside of these amps....

Anyway, nice work on the PDF and the circuit revisions at this point I think. I am a little worried about the 3rd stage exit route? For the clean sounds this amp gets I find it hard to believe it's not a cathode follower here? Just saying.

You can kinda see the choke on the sadie XS here, not sure if the X10 would share the same choke:

those are the head versions, where the chassis is actually still mounted vertically in the wood cabinet.

Just love his metal work, im building all my chassis now three piece, not five, but really dig the block ends for mounting and not having to weld.

OMG, these chassis are built in pieces and then bolted/screwed together? I had no idea. Wowsa, that's all I got.

I see, too, that he has a leg sandwiched between the bell cover and the laminates on the standups. Is this something special he does or is this stock MM? Anybody?

The leg between the bell end the laminates is how Mercury does it, nothing special there. XITS iron is custom wound or at least relabeled for them.

Since the vox night train runs the el84s with 330v, can we assume similar as they are both high gain amps? Seems to be the trend with el84s...

I do like about 335v myself, that's also what the new hw ac15 runs at.
