Nice build, Mark! You've done several of these now, haven't you?
PM sent regarding my own Komet 60 project.

Re: Komet 60 type build
Thanks guys.
I built one previously an Asteroid K60 into the Distortion's nice head cab.
I started on this one (mojo bassman chassis) before I new I was going to buy a another fantastic K50 head cab from Distortions that came up for sale here. That will be the concorde K50 build.
I need to get my faceplate ordered, I already have a custom Bassman head cab for this amp.

Re: Komet 60 type build
I gotta order some trannies and get my K60 happening, nice build dude!
Re: Komet 60 type build
Thanks Don I fired her up tonight and just like my other Komet 60 she sounds good to my ears.
Cant wait to run it through the 4x12 cab. I'll see how the guys like it.
I put the fast gradual switch on the front where a guy can get to it. On my Concorde K50 I am going to use Dana Hall's switching system he put together for me, and much appreciated too.
477v on the plates.

Re: Komet 60 type build
Yeah very neat man, when i took my express/K60 down the boys at the guitar shop, we tried it thru a quad of greenies, pretty cool tones.
ALltho im running mine thru a blue and a gold, yes tentatively..!
The gold by itself is killer, but those two beatup speakers ound great together.
Im just cutting a chassis in for a 2 hole rocket/Zwreck right now, hope to have it all holed and drilled out today, start loading it up tonight.
Ive got a PT with 260 and 320 taps, 200ma, im gonna have to drop it some with a couple zeners, or try a 5U4G in it, see when its together.
Where do you get your faceplates done? They look great!

Re: Komet 60 type build
Colossal draws them up with his magic and then I send a Corel draw file to BNP Lazer to make them.
That Dave is a very talented man makes great amps and can create designs that would take me 2 years to figure out if ever
Not cheap but and essential part of an amp
Geez Don I wouldn't have thought a blue/gold combination would work that well. I have tried mine but afraid I am overloading that blue too much?

Re: Komet 60 type build
Wait a two holer Rocket/Zwreck? Two holer as in a pair of 6L6/EL34's?
With that voltage you will be just fine with octal power section. Flipping the HT down to 260 doesn't really make a huge sonic difference to my ears.

Re: Komet 60 type build
sorry man, a 2hole EL84. My first thought was just use the 260 tap and solid state rec, should be ballpark 335-345V but i like the idea of what Z did with the taps, so will figure something out if its too high.
I really gotta get a lower powered amp together, my ears are gettin fried!!
Yes the blue is taking a slight poundiung. It came in a Maz 18 i ordered new a few years ago. Those damn Maz's are freakin loud! The abuse it took from that amp, proved it could take 20 watts ok. Coupled with the gold, it should handle at least 35 watts, which the K60 thing ive done at 400V is prolly around. And im not caning it! much..

Re: Komet 60 type build
Ouch 320v at 200mA that will hurt those poor old EL84 tubes
Better reduce that puppy or find another PT.
Not playing very loud aye
You might have to build a Champ with the rest of us poor bastards suffering from hearing loss and tinnitus.

Re: Komet 60 type build
Eh ? cant hear you, my ears are ringing...
Yeah tinitus sucks large! I gotta stop playing so loud...
hmmm, its not gonna work easily, 260 to 320. Well maybe i'll just use the 260 tap and figure in a switchable SS rec and the GZ34. That should give about 30V difference. Even use a 5U4G get maybe 40V.
Somewhere near actual rocket voltage with the tube and about 360 or so with SS. yeah thats what i'll do!

Re: Komet 60 type build
I got to thinking about my earlier post.
I can't use Dana's switch in my K50.
I will have to put it into my first K60 it has a tube rectifier and Dana's kit is setup for K60 with it's own power supply.

That's yet another killer build Mark! I really like your layout on this one. Cool PS board and neat arrangement of components on the main board. I'll bet that it sounds great!
