In years past I built 4 Express and 2 Rockets. Then moved to the Dumble side of the amp garage.
When tuning the Express or Rocket I would go through up to 150 or so preamp tubes to get the
Sound I was after, It took hours if not days. In the past I thought it was the Mallory caps
And transformers that gave the Wreck sound, Update I just replaced all the cheap resistors
With Mepco/Electra and IRC 1%, To my old ears the sound is 1000% improvement with the good resistors, No high end hash fat and thick smooth as silk. And the voltages are spot on.
Take care, Steve.

look at all the amp forums, all the debates, all the techy info. The big debates if you could hear a difference in different caps or resistors of same values or types and so on.
Even the lead dress and many other things.
Many will argue that it isn't possible. But some know they make a difference or make a difference in the sound/tone of the amp or its response to note bloom or top end hash or smoothness.
I think sometimes its hard to explain,or maybe it can't be explained. Maybe its something that some train their ears to. And even some amps built with the same parts all measured, exact in every way,one may still sound better than the other one.
I think this is one reason Ken had the 10 rating. maybe he compared how the amps sounded. And if they didn't rate in the last 8,9 or 10. Then they weren't good enough. I think the pots also have an effect.
I used all metal films in my Concorde and it sounds great.
I dont have it setting beside a real concorde so cant say it sounds 'right'.
But great will do!
