ANY LOVE FOR CELESTION G12T-75's?

Post by Paul86 »

Hi everyone,
I don't know if this has been discussed here before. But anyway, I was offered a sweet deal on a 1960B with aforementioned speakers. The catch is that it's a bit far from where I live and I can't try it out with my head before buying. I play an Alessandro Bloodhound.
Would it be a good match? What's your experience / opinion? Apparently G12T-75's have a bad rep, but why really?
ANY info appreciated!

if its under 250, you can sell the speakers and have relatively decent cab to refill.

They're not bad but not as good at G12h30. I have a 4x12 of them right next to my 4x12 of g12h30. The g12T is a bit mellower, so is actually good with a bright amp.

I usually hang out on the Dumble forum, but stumbled on this thread.

I had an '84 JCM800 combo with G12T75's. Did not like them at all. I tried some other amps through the speakers and could not get past how gritty they sounded. They are bullet proof though.

75's

Post by FE911 »

I just bought some marshall cabs a little while ago, 1- 1966a 2x12 with the 75's. Great cabinet, but horrible speakers in my opinion. Really harsh and overly efficient. Overpowers anything else you might pair them with. Some people love them though. You just have to decide for yourself.

I had a 2x12 Marshall cab with these for several years:

If you like super-harsh, bright, head-ache inducingly annoying speakers then these are for you!

Seriously, they're horrible and are almost the worst thing Celestion makes.

If you get, plan to sell!

Ditto.

If you just happen to have access to Celestion G12M-70's you could give them a try. Loved them in a Marshall 4104 (50 W MV combo 2x12).
Oldie newbie.

It's amazing to me how many people turn their noses up at 75's. I think they are one of the best sounding speakers on the market. Vintage 30's, G12H, G12H30 all sound terrible to me. Whenever a friend or a friend of a friend comes over to jam or listen to my gear, they all ask what speakers are in my cabs because they can't believe how amazing the tone is. The answer is G12T-75. Many of them go and get 75's after hearing them. Fortunately for all of us, their are many flavors to choose from on the speaker market.
I do think that some amps are voiced just so and sound best with specific speakers. In the end the tone is in the ear of the beholder.
