Rocket goes silent after 10 minutes

Post by M Fowler »

I need to pull each tube out one by one but this amp goes silent after being on for maybe 10 minutes but voltages are good when it does this.

Is this a tube going into thermal cutoff or shut down?

Maybe Something heating up and expading?. Then losing contact. A broken lead from a cap or something?

Does the whole amp go quiet, or can you maybe hear the sound of the output tubes through the speaker? If you can check it with an ammeter, does the mains idle current stay the same both before and after it goes silent?

The whole amp would go silent.

I resoldered some key areas I thought would be suspect and now it hasn't gone silent on me so whatever the problem was it appears to have been corrected. I don't know what the problem was though. :o
