That aluminum chassis used is so thin some structural support was definitely well advised.

Wood can improve tone too ..

Those Bud boxes are barely thicker than aluminum foil and the tone suggestion was pure invocation of special dusts ..

It’s only slightly thicker than the walls Grumman Aerospace used in the Apollo Lunar Lander and that transformer set is hefty 5.5kg of hard steel impressing constantly. Dowels, as applied, transfer forces to reduce strain.

Ian is trying to tell you (in a humorous way) that the Bud chassis is very thin gauge aluminum, maybe 0.040, about 1 mm. Even if the amp is set down carefully the mass of the transformers will deform it. Set it down hard, and it will see several g's deceleration and collapse the upper surface. The broomstick was an attempt to minimize that by forcing the load path out to the front and rear side walls.

Thanks Martin. And yes, exactly. It's a structural element under compression, transfering the interior weights at the midspan of the chassis out onto it's fold-reinforced perimeter instead of collapsing as illustrated. There are also known examples of Fischer including a dowel post below that weak point, that spans from the inside upper surface of the chassis and rests on the baseplate when it's all buttoned up. Alone, the baseplate really only provides torsional rigidity and does nothing to improve any deflection deformations on the chassis top surface. Thin aluminum, like Bud and Hammond boxes, has many properties to recommend it for amp building and selective thoughtful reinforcements are easy solutions to this literal weakness.

Best ..

As a retired SATCOM SYSTEMS ENGINEER, when I ask a serious or technical question, I expect a serious answer. If I wanted a humorous answer, I would of asked a comedian. Thank you for finally providing a meaningful answer.
First time on the internet?

On a serious note, as a retired anything, you should understand manners by now. This is a place where people donate their time to share information, not Chat GPT. I assume you've heard the expression, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." Responses like this make people less inclined to want to help.

Furthermore, I'd have much preferred to not post this publicly, but you seem to have private messaging disabled.

Sorry to the rest of the forum...I don't stand for bullies. Berating someone who not only tried to help, but provided accurate answers (albeit in a whimsical way) is over the line.

After the last mass deletion debacle (AndyD?), I thought editing / deleting posts was made to be a time limited thing?
